Assassin’s Creed Shadows has several quests, including side activities that reward players with higher-level loot. While there will be some gear pieces like legendary weapons and armor that you’ll equip, most of the loot will mostly either sit inside the inventory or will be stored in the storage stash. However, instead of just storing unnecessary equipment, players can dismantle it with the help of the blacksmith and get essential upgrade materials from him.

Players need to make an impactful choice of either letting Mitsumune kill the captive soldiers or spare them in Heads Will Roll quest of AC Shadows.
How to Dismantle Gear in AC Shadows
To dismantle equipment and weapons, players will need to first unlock Heiji the Blacksmith in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. You’ll need to find the Heiji as part of the “Ways of the Blacksmith” quest, after which he joins the Hideout as an ally. After you’re done building a Forge at the base, players can interact with him to access gear upgrade and dismantling services.
Switching over to the dismantle tab, players will spot a menu similar to the upgrade tab. Simply choose a gear category and select the equipment that you need to dismantle. Once you’ve selected a gear item, you can view what materials you’ll be getting after dismantling said equipment.
Once you’re ready, simply proceed with the dismantling process, and you’ll get rid of the unnecessary weapon, armor, or trinket, in exchange for some materials.
Why Should You Dismantle Gear?

Assassin’s Creed Shadows does not feature an inventory/weight management system, so players will be collecting a ton of gear that will go unused. So, it’s better that you dismantle it to get materials to upgrade your current equipment. Here’s a list of materials you’ll get after dismantling a specific type of gear item.
You can dismantle most of the loot that you find or purchase with Mon in-game except Legendary equipment. This is because legendary weapons, armor, trinkets, and headwear are unique and players cannot farm for duplicates.
Gear/Equipment Pieces |
Materials After Dismantling |
---|---|
Naoe Melee Weapons (Katana, Tanto, Kusarigama) |
Iron Sand |
Naoe Armor |
Hemp Cloth |
Yasuke Melee Weapons (Long Katana, Naginata, Kanabo) |
Tamahagane |
Yasuke Ranged Weapons (Teppo, Bow) |
Oakwood |
Yasuke Armor |
Leather |
Trinkets |
Silk |
Once you have enough materials, you can simply invest them, alongside some Mon, to upgrade your existing equipment to your current level with ease. It’s a great feature to have in AC Shadows, as players won’t need to constantly switch weapons once their equipment gets under-leveled and recreate builds viable for higher-level enemies.
