Like Indiana Jones’ whip and hat, the breathing device is another essential tool in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The breathing device allows you to breathe and swim underwater safely, opening up even more ways to explore while playing as the iconic adventurer. Although it’s possible to come across secret areas that require the breathing device quite early in the game, you won’t be able to grab it until much later in the story. Consequently, you might wonder when and how to get the breathing device in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle — and what you need to do in order to get it.

Obtaining the breathing device is crucial to explore every nook and cranny of the game, such as when recovering more Ancient Relics in the ‘Riddles of the Ancients’ quest. Of course, like the lighter and the camera in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the breathing device won’t automatically show up in your inventory, and there are a few things to do first to get hold of it, in addition to progressing in the main story.

How To Get The Breathing Device In Indiana Jones And The Great Circle

Breathing Device in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

To get the breathing device in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, also known as the Rebreather, you’ll have to wait until you reach Sukhothai during the main story quest called ‘The Blessed Pearl.’ After several cutscenes, you can set off to explore more Sukhothai by boat in ‘The Blessed Pearl.’ However, you’ll also have a bit of prep to do before you can grab the breathing device.

Breathing Device Location (Tongdang’s Hut Location)

To get the breathing device, you’ll need to buy it from a Sukhothai vendor called Tongdang. You’ll need to travel by boat to reach Tongdang’s Hut, located toward the middle of the Sudokhai map, pictured above. Although Tongdong wants to offer you a fair price for the Rebreather on the table, it doesn’t come cheap, being a rare piece of kit. You’ll need to fork out a whopping 798 baht to buy it, the currency used in the Sukhothai region. You’ll unlikely have enough money at this point in the game, so you’ll probably wonder how to get enough cash together.

How To Get Money For The Breathing Device (How To Steal Voss’s Gold)

Voss' Gold Stash quest in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

After speaking with Tongdang about the breathing device for the first time, you immediately unlock a quest called Voss’ Gold Stash. If you don’t have enough money to buy the Rebreather, completing this quest is essential to get enough money to buy it. Head to the northeast corner of the Sukhothai map by boat and sneak past the guards in Voss’ camp until you reach the first floor of the main building.

One of the safest and quickest ways there can be to sneak through the opening with white paint is by traveling under the wooden platform from the east of the area near the second cat painting, but you can also approach the camp from almost any direction if you’re careful to avoid the guards.

If you keep traveling under the platform past the opening in the floor with white paint, there is also a secret room containing a Lost Artifact of Asia to grab, the Ganesha Statue.

Voss’ camp is well guarded, so the mission becomes much easier after grabbing the Royal Army Disguise on the table just outside the main building, as pictured above. After equipping the disguise, you can head up the exterior stairs of the main building and enter the building through the side window without any trouble.

Wearing the Royal Army Disguise enables you to stroll past most of the guards unnoticed until you reach the room with Voss’ gold, which contains a captain you’ll have to fight. Take him out and use the Sukhothai safe code 5484 to open the safe and steal four gold bars from inside worth 500 baht each. While you should have more than enough money with the gold alone, there is also a wad of cash (100 baht) on the table to swipe, a locked room, and a chest to open with more goodies.

Buying The Breathing Device (Rebreather)

Return to Tongdang’s Hut to buy the breathing device with the money from the gold you stole from Voss, which you’ll find on the table in front of Tongdang. You should also have plenty of cash left to pick up the nearby Sukhothai Mysteries and Sukhothai Adventure pamphlets for 450 baht each, which you can only buy once you own the breathing device.

While you’ll need the breathing device to proceed with the main story, it also comes in handy when searching for more secrets across Sukhothai and beyond during and after finishing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, with plenty of underwater secrets to uncover in previous areas of the game, such as in Vatican City.
