Thief’s Torment is one of the more unconventional Unique Rings in Path of Exile 2. Not only is it an incredibly useful early-game leveling item, but it can also help players in a pinch against pinnacle boss fights, especially characters who are always low on mana.

Finding a Thief’s Torment is not very difficult, despite its usefulness, as it has a relatively generous drop rate and can be found on the trade site for a modest sum.

How to Get Thief’s Torment Emerald Ring in PoE 2

Thief’s Torment Emerald Ring can be obtained in one of three ways. They are:

  1. Random drop from enemies.
  2. Chancing a white Emerald Ring.
  3. Trading with other players.

Random Drop

Thief’s Torment Unique Ring has the chance to start dropping from Level 26+ enemies. This means players can theoretically obtain it naturally as early as Act 3 of the campaign. You cannot influence the drop rate of this Ring in particular directly, but increasing the general drop rate of items and their rarity can help. There are three methods players can employ to that effect.

  • Take ‘Rarity of Items Found’ stat on equipped gear.
  • Activate Precursor Tablets with ‘Increased Quantity’ and ‘Increased Rarity’ on the Towers in the Atlas.
  • Take Atlas tree skills that give ‘Increased Quantity,’ ‘Increased Rarity,’ and ‘Increased Rare Monsters.’

Orb of Chance

You can use an Orb of Chance
on a Normal (white) Emerald Ring to gamble and obtain a Thief’s Torment directly. There are three possible outcomes of chancing an Emerald Ring.

  1. Thief’s Torment
  2. Death Rush
  3. Item is destroyed.

Trade With Other Players

The most reliable way to obtain a Thief’s Torment is by trading with another player. While its price might fluctuate, you can easily obtain a Thief’s Torment for 40-50 Exalted Orb
. Since it has only three variable stats, of which only two really matter, it’s relatively easy to find a perfectly rolled Thief’s Torment for a relatively low price on the trade site.

How Does Thief’s Torment Work in PoE 2

Thief’s Torment Emerald Ring Stats

+(120–160) to Accuracy Rating

(30–40)% increased Rarity of Items found

+(10–15)% to all Elemental Resistances

Gain 25 Life per Enemy Hit with Attacks

Can’t use other Rings

Gain 15 Mana per Enemy Hit with Attacks

50% reduced Duration of Curses on you

The Thief’s Torment Emerald Ring has a unique modifier that’s not present in any other Ring in PoE 2. It simply states, ‘Can’t use other Rings.’ This means that if a player equips a Thief’s Torment Ring, they will only be able to equip that single Ring; the other Ring slot will be greyed out. The effects of any Ring placed in this slot will not be counted towards the player’s stats.

Thief’s Torment’s special effect applies to itself as well. You cannot equip two Thief’s Torments on a single character.

On the surface, this is a huge debuff, so much so that one might wonder what the point of this Unique is if its fate is to always go to the trash after the leveling phase is over. After all, its stats don’t seem that impressive.

The reason Thief’s Torment is a valuable item is because it is the only item in all of Path of Exile 2 that gives players the ability to recover Mana on Hit. Mana on Kill is a fairly common stat across multiple types of gear, but Mana on Hit is a stat exclusive to the Thief’s Torment Ring. Mana on Kill means that every time you kill a monster in the game, you recover Mana. For 99% of the content in the game, this is an easy way to complement passive mana regeneration. However, Mana on Kill is useless against bosses because, in boss fights, you only have one enemy to kill. Very rarely are there any trash mobs to help recover your mana or refill your flasks. However, Mana on Hit works against bosses because you don’t need to kill anything to activate it, which allows characters with Mana-intensive abilities to spam their attacks without worrying about Mana recovery.
