The Death of Robin Hood is beginning to round out its ensemble cast ahead of filming. The latest actor to join the production is none other than one of the supporting players in Robert Eggers’ critically acclaimed gothic hit Nosferatu.
According to insider Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Bill Skarsgård has joined Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer in The Death of Robin Hood, which will be directed by Michael Sarnoski. While the actor is perhaps best known for playing Pennywise the Dancing Clown in Andy Muschietti’s two-part film adaptation of Stephen King’s It, he has earned rave reviews for his performance as the vampire Count Orlok in Nosferatu, which became a critical and commercial success upon hitting theaters this past December.

The Deadpool & Wolverine duo are even better friends in real life.
Announced in May 2024, The Death of Robin Hood, per the logline, “is a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale,” following the title character as he grapples “with his past after a life of crime and murder, a battle-worn loner who finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation.” Jackman will portray the title character, while The Bikeriders‘ Jodie Comer will portray the mysterious woman. It’s unclear who Skarsgård is playing in the movie.
Hugh Jackman’s Robin Hood Will Be Unlike Past Versions of the Character
While promoting A Quiet Place: Day One in July 2024, Sarnoski briefly touched on The Death of Robin Hood, revealing that the movie will be both action-packed and intimate. “It’s a little bit of both. It has a sort of different version of the epic Robin that we’re used to, while also a very intimate story that’s going throughout, as well,” he teased. “So, it’ll have a little bit for everyone in that sense.”
The following month, the filmmaker shared that Jackman’s take on Robin Hood would be “pretty different” yet “amazing.” Sarnoski explained, “He has quite a range with this character that he’s going to be exploring. I think people think of Robin is sort of like, he’s gonna steal from the rich, give to the poor. We have an idea for what that character is. But I think what he’s going to do with this character is going to go beyond what people are expecting, and I’m really excited to see him dive into it.”

The Death of Robin Hood is expected to begin filming before the end of the month. Described as a “smaller passion project” by Sarnoski, the filmmaker revealed last year that he wrote the script for The Death of Robin Hood before signing on to write and direct A Quiet Place: Day One, explaining, “I kind of made a deal with myself where, if I was gonna do a big studio movie, I wanted to make sure I had my smaller passion project in the wings that I could be thinking about.”
The Death of Robin Hood does not yet have a release date but will be distributed by A24.
