Iberia Flight IB-311 returns safely to Madrid after a mid-flight fuel leak scare, showcasing crew’s quick action and safety protocols.
While flying over the Atlantic Ocean at an altitude of 37,000 feet, the flight crew of Iberia Flight IB-311 decided to turn back to Madrid due to concerns about a possible fuel leak. The aircraft was around 580 nautical miles west-northwest of Santa Maria in the Azores Islands, Portugal, when the decision was made. The flight safely landed on runway 18R in Madrid about three hours after the crew initiated the return.
Passengers later shared that the captain had mentioned a technical issue during the journey. It was revealed post-flight that the suspected fuel leak was the reason for the emergency return. Maintenance teams managed to resolve the issue promptly, allowing the aircraft to resume service just 13 hours after its arrival in Madrid.
