Idaho’s Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) is introducing a revamped camping reservation platform to better meet the growing demand for outdoor experiences in the state. 

The IDAHO TIME system, which went live on January 6, aims to streamline the booking process and provide users with an updated, user-friendly interface. The launch marks a significant step forward in improving access to the state’s popular parks and camping sites.

According to a press release, the new system was developed in collaboration with Brandt, a technology provider that partners with state agencies across the U.S. to enhance outdoor recreation services. Brandt’s client portfolio includes agencies such as the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, South Carolina State Parks, and Florida Fish and Wildlife. 

Previously, Idaho park reservations were handled by Reserve America. The switch to IDAHO TIME introduces a dynamic pricing model, resembling modern hotel or airline reservation systems. This means campsite prices may vary depending on demand, with higher fees during peak periods and reduced rates during quieter times. 

The IDAHO TIME system offers several enhancements, including smartphone compatibility and detailed information on campsite features and availability. Users can view photos and descriptions of campsites, ensuring they have a clear understanding of the facilities before booking. 

To facilitate a smooth transition, IDPR paused reservations for the 2025 camping season on August 1, 2024. The department has outlined a staggered launch plan to avoid overloading the new system when it becomes available. Each day during the first week will open specific reservation windows, distributing demand for popular dates such as Memorial Day and Labor Day across multiple days.

Campers are encouraged to prepare in advance by visiting the IDAHO TIME webpage and following IDPR’s social media channels for updates and tips. Users should familiarize themselves with the system’s features to ensure a seamless booking process when the platform goes live. The department has provided step-by-step instructions to guide users through the new reservation process.

During the initial launch period, users may encounter a virtual waiting room when accessing the reservation system during peak times. This feature aims to manage website traffic and prevent system overloads.

Once users enter the reservation system, they can search for available campsites, cabins, and facilities based on their preferred dates and park locations. It is important to note that reservations are only secured upon purchase, with no holds available during the selection process. Users are advised to have alternative options ready in case their first-choice site is unavailable.

Idaho State Parks encompass a vast and diverse landscape, covering 60,000 acres across 30 parks. These parks offer more than 2,500 overnight accommodations, including campsites, cabins, yurts, and group facilities. Each provides unique experiences, from serene lakeside retreats to rugged mountain adventures, catering to a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts.
