In the four weeks since President Trump signed an executive order establishing the Department of Government Efficiency, the higher education sector has been rocked by funding cuts, grant cancellations, mass layoffs at the Department of Education and news that the Elon Musk–led agency had access to sensitive student data.
There have been more executive orders, targeting institutions’ diversity, equity and inclusion programs and their ability to protect their campuses from ICE raids. President Biden’s Title IX regulations have been rolled back and the administration has tried to fire the student loan ombudsman.

Oh, and a Dear Colleague letter claiming race-based programs and activities are against the law.
And it’s only been 31 days.
