The Italian leisure vehicle market is entering 2025 with optimism, supported by strong growth in registrations, manufacturing, and exhibitions over the past year, according to the Associazione Produttori Caravan e Camper (APC).

Between January and November 2024, camper registrations in Italy increased by over 19%, a figure surpassing the estimated 10% growth in vehicle registrations across Europe.

The APC attributes this surge to the appeal of RV travel, which offers freedom, comfort, and a high-quality lifestyle.

The Salone del Camper show in Parma, held shortly after the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf, attracted over 100,000 visitors, highlighting the sector’s growing popularity.

Italy also reinforced its position as Europe’s third-largest RV manufacturer, behind Germany and France. Notably, over 80% of the RVs produced in Italy are destined for export, underscoring the sector’s economic importance.

According to a report by Aboutcamp BtoB, Italian manufacturers’ investment in advanced technologies continues to play a critical role in the industry’s success.

These efforts aim to produce vehicles that are increasingly comfortable, safe, environmentally friendly, and aligned with market demands.

“These data and initiatives confirm the strong interest of Italians in camper life, a form of tourism that combines freedom, sustainability, and contact with nature,” said Simone Niccolai, president of APC.

“The increase in registrations, both nationally and in Europe, is a positive sign: it shows that, despite a complex international context, the desire to travel and discover remains a priority for many.”

Institutional support has also contributed to the sector’s development. In 2024, the Ministry of Tourism launched a program inviting Italian municipalities to propose projects for camper parking area development.

APC views this initiative as a key step in improving infrastructure to support RV tourism.

“With increasing demand, institutional support, and a strong push towards innovation, the Italian camper sector is establishing itself as a point of reference in Europe, ready to continue its growth path in the new year, despite the current international socio-economic instability,” Niccolai added.
