James Marsden is ready to go the way of Timothée Chalamet in A Complete Unknown and the many other actors who’ve portrayed the true stories of singers over the years. His role of choice is Frank Sinatra.

“I’ve always loved emulating some of the old crooners, like Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin,” Marsden told The Post in an interview published Tuesday. “I always thought there were so many interesting stories of Frank Sinatra’s life that could be played. And for whatever reason, you’ve never really seen a movie about him.”

Marsden noted that he’s truly interested in the “My Way” singer’s life, about which there have been projects based on, including a 1992 TV miniseries, called Sinatra, starring Philip Casnoff as the star, who died in 1998, and Olympia Dukakis as his mother. In April 2014, sources told Variety that director Martin Scorsese wanted to do a movie based on the singer that would star his frequent collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio.

“I just think there’s so many stories that could be told about that man — some of the really tortured and darker stories, and some uplifting ones as well. What he did, what he accomplished,” Marsden said of the superstar who famously palled around with President John F. Kennedy. “I’ve never really done a biopic about somebody.”

The star of the new Paradise, in which he costars with Sterling K. Brown, has a specific type of movie in mind.

“To do a biopic like what Jamie Foxx did with Ray Charles would be a lot of fun,” Marsden said of 2004 Oscar winner Ray. “I would love to. And you’re actually using your singing voice, as well.”

That’s important to Marsden, who can more than carry a tune as he proved in the 2007 movie version of the musical Hairspray, in which he appeared alongside a star-studded cast that included John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Queen Latifah, and Zac Efron.

“I had the most amazing experience on that movie, and it was just a party,” said Marsden, who played TV host Corny Collins. “It was like we were doing a Broadway show on stage for a couple of months. It was great … a joyous experience.”

In 2007’s live-action fairy tale Enchanted, he was the naive and narcissistic Prince Edward, who sang songs including a version of “That’s Amore” by Dean Martin. The crooner was one of Sinatra’s contemporaries in the group of singers in the ’50s and ’60s known as the Rat Pack.

Marsden is also known for his role as Teddy in HBO hit sci-fi series Westworld and in the X-Men movie franchise as Scott Summers/Cyclops.
