Jefferson County is set to become a new destination for mountain biking and outdoor recreation with the development of Plattin Peak Trails near Festus. Chris and Rene Creed, owners of Pedal’n Pi and founders of the nonprofit Living Life on 2 Wheels, are leading the project to create a public bike park on a 576-acre property off Plattin Road.

The park’s opening is tentatively scheduled for April, though no official date has been confirmed.

The park will initially feature three professionally built trails, with future plans to expand into a full-scale recreational facility, including a campground, cabins, restaurant, amphitheater, and general store.

Chris emphasized the need for such a development, citing the lack of accessible nature experiences in the area.

“We don’t have anything like this around here,” Creed said, as reported by My Leader Paper.

“Everybody has to drive so far to enjoy nature, and that’s really why Rene and I want to do this. We want families to get out and enjoy what we have to offer down here,” he added.

On January 27, the Jefferson County Council approved the rezoning of the property from large lot residential to a planned mixed-use district, along with the Creeds’ development plan.

District 5 Councilman Scott Seek expressed his full support, praising the couple’s efforts.“The Creeds did a great job of putting this all together,” Seek said. “We are lucky as a community to have people like the Creeds to do this type of project.”

District 3 Councilwoman Lori Arons also echoed those sentiments. “I can’t wait to get my little bike out there,” she said.

Before opening, the park will require the completion of a parking lot, restrooms, and trail signage.

The Creeds also plan to relocate the park’s main entrance to a safer location on Plattin Road. Despite the challenges, Chris remains optimistic about the April launch.

Additional trails will be added as funding allows. Zac Milner of Stray Trails in St. Louis has been hired to build the current trails, including a green-level downhill flow trail.
