After Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock, the other Defenders of Hell’s Kitchen may not be far behind.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly for an exclusive deep dive into Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel‘s head of streaming, television, and animation Brad Winderbaum confirms “we are very much exploring” bringing back Krysten Ritter‘s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter‘s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones‘ Iron Fist/Danny Rand to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I can’t say much, but I’ll tell you that it’s so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox,” Winderbaum says. “Obviously we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book. If you can draw it, you can do it. It’s dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring.”
In 2013, Marvel Studios teamed up with ABC Studios to launch its own mini-franchise on Netflix. It began with Daredevil, led by Cox, which ran on the streaming platform for three seasons from 2015-2018. This was followed by three seasons of Jessica Jones with Ritter as the strongwoman P.I. (2015-2019); two seasons of Luke Cage with Colter as the bullet-proof Harlem hero (2016-2018); two seasons of Iron Fist with Jones as the mystically charged martial artist (2017-2018); one season of miniseries The Defenders (2017); and two seasons of The Punisher with Jon Bernthal as the lethal vigilante (2017-2019).
By 2018, Marvel began canceling the shows in favor of launching the company’s own in-house streaming platform, Disney+. In the years since, the original Netflix shows also found their way to the new service, where they are currently available to stream.

Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home (both 2021) featured the first return appearances of these characters in the franchise. Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Daredevil’s longtime nemesis, appeared in the Jeremy Renner– and Hailee Steinfeld-led TV series, while Cox himself appeared as Matt Murdock in Tom Holland‘s latest Spidey entry. After additional appearances by both in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022) and Echo (2024), Daredevil: Born Again is the first Marvel title to fully return to the street-level heroes of Hell’s Kitchen.
Bernthal’s Punisher/Frank Castle will also appear with Cox and D’Onofrio in Daredevil: Born Again, which takes place after the events of the Netflix iteration. Other returning alums from that show include Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, and Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye.
When asked about characters like Elektra (played by Elodie Young across the Netflix run) and ninja clan the Hand, Winderbaum says, “Who knows what the future brings? Once we arc out here, there’s obviously any number of stories that we’d want to revisit or pull from the comics that involve Elektra or the Hand or any part of the Daredevil mythos.”
“100 percent it’s in the back of our heads,” Sana Amanat, another executive producer on Daredevil: Born Again, comments to EW separately of Elektra and the Hand. “Eventually we’ll try to figure out a bit more with that.”
The first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ this March 4. Season 2 is already gearing up to film.
