The scariest thing about American Horror Story might just be Jessica Lange‘s reaction to a question about potentially returning to Ryan Murphy‘s beloved FX anthology series that won her a pair of Emmys.
After the two-time Oscar-winning actress appeared in five seasons of the main series, an Irish radio station recently asked during a red-carpet interview about a potential return ahead of the show’s upcoming season 13.
“Oh Christ, no,” the 75-year-old replied. “I mean, I haven’t done it for more than 10 years, 12 years, so, no, I’m not doing it.”
When the journalist interviewing her asked about the potential for Lange’s return if the makers of the show asked her to be part of the new episodes, Lange didn’t miss a beat with her response: “No,” Lange said with a laugh.
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Lange and Murphy for additional comment.
Lange, a Hollywood icon, joined American Horror Story‘s inaugural season in 2011, playing a supporting role as Constance Langdon, the mysterious neighbor who lives close to a haunted home inhabited by a happy family.
The actress would go on to win an Emmy for the role, and later fronted an additional three seasons of American Horror Story across the next several years, including as a nun in Asylum, a powerful witch in Coven, and the leader of a traveling circus in Freak Show.

Lange last reprised the role of Langdon in a short supporting arc on the eighth season, Apocalypse, in 2018, and hasn’t appeared on an episode of the franchise since.
While Lange dismissed the idea of returning for season 13, popular star Sarah Paulson, who notably fronted multiple seasons of AHS, recently said she’d love to return if asked.

“I think there is a big chance that I will return to American Horror Story,” Paulson told Good Morning America in October 2024. “I’ve got everything crossed. I would like to do it more than anything. It’s my home. It’s where I started.”
She continued, “I got to play, you know, seven different characters in seven years, which as an actor is the most exciting, thrilling thing, and also allows an audience to be ready for anything you’re going to do because they’re not attached to one thing that you do, specifically. That has given me a lot of career flexibility.”
