The former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker is finding new success on streaming. Her new limited series, Toxic Town, has just hit Netflix and is already up in the charts.

Whittaker had many different roles throughout her career, including the leading character in Doctor Who and Beth Latimer in Broadchurch, among others. Robert De Niro’s Netflix Thriller Show Didn’t Impress Critics But Still Became A Streaming Hit

Robert De Niro proves his name is still a big draw.

Two days after its release on the platform, Toxic Town rose to No. 4 globally and fifth place in the U.S. charts. On the global charts, Toxic Town follows Robert De Niro’s Zero Day, Kate Hudson’s new show Running Point, which premiered on the same day as the limited series, and the docuseries American Murder: Gabby Petito. In the U.S., Toxic Town is behind the same titles, as well as the reality dating show Love Is Blind, which recently released Season 8.

Toxic Town comes from Broke & Bones and multi-award-winning writer Jack Thorne. It stars a series of popular actors, including Aimee Lou Wood (The White Lotus, Sex Education), Claudia Jessie (Bridgerton), Robert Carlyle (Once Upon a Time), Brendan Coyle (Downton Abbey), Rory Kinnear (The Diplomat), Stephen McMillan (Boiling Point), Lauren Lyle (Outlander), Joe Dempsie (Game of Thrones), Michael Socha (This Is England), and Karla Crome (Carnival Row). Thorne said of the cast, via Netflix, “Truly, it was a company of dreams. I couldn’t believe that we were able to get these people, and that they were prepared to be part of this story. And boy, did they all deliver.

Toxic Town Is Off to a Great Reception

Although the series has only been available on Netflix for two days, the interest in the limited series is clear. On top of that, it is also off to a great start when it comes to the reviews. So far, Toxic Town has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. There are only eight reviews available on the review-aggregator website, but all of them are positive. The reviews praise the tone and the intensity, as well as the cast.

The series doesn’t have an audience score available, as there are fewer than 50 ratings. However, all of them are positive, with one user noting, “Hope they consider it for the Emmys.
