John Goodman is recovering from a hip injury.
The Big Lebowski star was treated at a hospital after he slipped during a blocking rehearsal for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s untitled new movie in the United Kingdom, Entertainment Weekly has learned.
“Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury,” a spokesperson for Warner Bros. tells EW. “He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”
Production on the film, which also stars Tom Cruise, is expected to resume on Monday.
Representatives for Goodman did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
Goodman was previously hospitalized following an incident on the set of The Righteous Gemstones. “I was trying to be a stunt boy,” Goodman told Jimmy Fallon in 2022. “I’m not 69 years old. I’m 23 and I’ll do this all night if I have to. I’ll prove my worth.”
He added, turning serious, “It was late in the night and I was too tired to actually be doing this stuff, so I slipped in the gravel and flew headfirst into the back of a truck.”

Goodman said he “went to the hospital” after the incident. “They give me a bunch of screens,” he said at the time. “They couldn’t tell if I’ve got a concussion or had a concussion. So I guess I’m okay.”

This isn’t the first time that a Cruise project has paused due to an injury. The Jerry Maguire star broke his ankle while shooting a Mission: Impossible – Fallout stunt in London in 2017, forcing production to halt while he recuperated. (Cruise also recently revealed that he broke his foot during a climbing sequence in 2000’s Mission: Impossible 2, but that injury didn’t impact the film’s schedule, somehow.)
Goodman can next be seen in the final season of The Conners, which premieres March 26 on ABC. He is also voicing Papa Smurf in the upcoming animated Smurfs movie, which also stars Rihanna.
Details remain scare about Iñárritu’s next film, which will be his first English-language feature since 2016’s The Revenant — the project that won Leonardo DiCaprio his first Oscar and earned the filmmaker his second consecutive Oscar for Best Director (following his win for Birdman). The movie’s supporting cast will also include Jesse Plemons (The Power of the Dog), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man), Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), and Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal), reports Deadline.
