“One story, Five continents. Dozens of cultures over thousands of years.”

This is how John Krasinski’s Luke Purdue explains his belief in the existence of the fabled fountain of youth. The legend is at the heart of the aptly named, Fountain of Youth, coming to Apple TV+ on May 23.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, the film follows treasure hunter Luke and his estranged sister, Charlotte (Natalie Portman), who he recruits in his search for the fountain alongside his team on a mission funded by Domnhall Gleeson’s Owen.

On Wednesday, the first trailer for the adventure film dropped, showcasing action that traverses the globe from the pyramids of Egypt to the streets of London to an ornate European library to a train in Thailand to the middle of the ocean.

Throughout the trailer, Luke tries to convince Charlotte to join him in his quest for the fountain, finishing the work their father began. She is reluctant and skeptical, though we do catch a glimpse of her more fascinated son, Thomas (Benjamin Chivers).

We also see Luke in a knife fight (well, multiple knife fights) with Eiza González’s Esme, who receives advice from Stanley Tucci on keeping the location of the fountain a secret.

Ritchie previously told Entertainment Weekly that the film was “in the vein of Indiana Jones but contemporary.”

As the trailer showcases, the film was shot on location around the world, which Ritchie highlights in expansive action sequences that show off their surroundings. “Ironically, you end up being in the movie yourself, if you know what I mean,” Ritchie said. “You go on an action-adventure yourself while you’re constructing these things. So the making of films is as much fun as you think it’s going to be.”

It was a travelogue for Portman too, who previously told EW, “I’d never been to Cairo or Vienna before and was blown away by both cities — some of the most special places I’ve ever been. We also had a crazy chase sequence we shot in Liverpool, which was some really wild car work, and an incredible sunken ship sequence we shot on stage in London. It was always an epic day with wild stunts and scenarios to tackle. Just the most fun you can have, really.”
