Journey was forced to stop “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

The rock band abruptly ended their set at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the NRG Stadium on Friday night after an electrical fire caused their audio to cut out right in the middle of their signature hit.

Video from the event that guitarist Neal Schon posted shows vocalist Arnel Pineda belting some of the song’s most memorable lyrics — “A singer in a smoky room / The smell of wine and cheap perfume / For a smile they can share the night” — before the sound system and jumbotrons malfunctioned, leaving the audience to continue with “it goes on and on and on and on” unaccompanied.

“Last night at Houston TX Rodeo we had an amazing, overly packed house of 79-80 thousand fans that showed up to see us!!” Schon wrote on Instagram. “The only unfortunate thing was that after getting off to a slamming start the Rodeo had an electrical failure and fire broke out under the stage.”

He continued, “Thank you, Houston, for singing ‘Don’t stop Believin’ before we were rushed off the stage because of an electrical fire and were not able to return. I felt terrible for our fans and offered to play tonight and make it up to y’all, but they were not able to make it happen, so until next time… —Love and Respect.”

Official Houston Rodeo social media accounts also reported an “electrical incident under the stage” that prompted the show’s conclusion. “We regretfully announce the cancellation of tonight’s Journey concert,” the Rodeo’s post read. “We sincerely apologize to all fans for this disappointment. Our team is working diligently to assess the situation, and we will provide updates regarding rescheduling options and refunds as soon as possible.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Journey and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for further comment.

Local NBC affiliate KPRC reported that Journey’s members left the stage in the middle of “Don’t Stop Believin'” and did not return, and that officials inspected the area around the drum kit while holding fire extinguishers.

The Rodeo confirmed that its scheduled festivities will take place as planned on Saturday. “For those who attended the Journey concert, we’ll follow up with more information soon,” the organization shared on social media.
