The ongoing legal drama between It Ends With Us co-stars doesn’t end with them because they’re dragging other projects into it as well. Including Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine for the creation of the character Nicepool.
The billion-dollar superhero movie features a series of Deadpool variants, several who are based on variants from the comics, as well as new creations. Nicepool is a new creation for the film, and Justin Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, alleged that Reynolds used the character to mock his client. As Justin Baldoni updated his lawsuit, he also further made new claims about Reynolds’ Nicepool.

In the amended lawsuit, which Baldoni and his team released online via the new website containing important evidence in his legal battle against Lively. Baldoni’s lawsuit mentions Reynolds’ character, Nicepool, on pages 104 and 105 in Paragraph 164.
Upon information and belief, the Nicepool scenes were added to the movie and filmed in January 2024 […] and were intended to be a transparent and mocking portrayal of Reynolds’ warped perception of Baldoni.
“Throughout this period, Reynolds and Lively continued to leave “bread crumbs” in their campaign for mocking and bullying Baldoni. On July 26, 2024, the film Deadpool & Wolverine premiered, starring Reynolds. The film contained a new character named “Nicepool,” also portrayed by Reynolds. Reynolds portrayed Nicepool as a vicious caricature of a “woke” feminist before concluding the character’s arc with his violent shooting death at the hands of “Ladypool,” a character voiced by Blake Lively.”
The lawsuit highlights, “Upon information and belief, the Nicepool scenes were added to the movie and filmed in January 2024, after the January 4 confrontation in Reynolds and Lively’s apartment, and were intended to be a transparent and mocking portrayal of Reynolds’ warped perception of Baldoni. Nicepool commented inappropriately on a female character’s attractive body after childbirth and excused his remark by claiming he identified as a feminist. Nicepool also made reference to an “intimacy coordinator” and even used a hairstyle that mirrored Baldoni’s previously longer hair.”

A new report examines whether the Deadpool & Wolverine shooting schedule lines up with Justin Baldoni’s lawsuit claims about the Nicepool character.
The lawsuit highlights that Lively thanked “Gordon Reynolds” in the credits for It Ends With Us in paragraph 165, the credit name her husband used as Nicepool. Reynolds invented “Gordon,” his “twin,” for a self-interview celebrating GQ’s 2016 Men of the Year.
Marvel Studios Hasn’t Addressed Justin Baldoni’s Claims
So far, Disney or Marvel Studios haven’t officially addressed the Nicepool drama. Since the character is not based on a comic book character, it’s difficult to prove Reynolds introduced the character to mock Justin Baldoni. However, the timeline is quite damning, as it happened after the infamous meeting at the Reynolds-Lively residence, where Reynolds allegedly “berated” Baldoni for the claims that he fat-shamed Lively.
Disney doesn’t have a long history of being forgiving when it comes to problematic actors and, if Baldoni’s allegations about Nicepool are true, this might not bode well for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool’s future. The character was originally supposed to be the opposite of Deadpool, a nicer and healthier, less sarcastic Wade Wilson. It was also reportedly set to be based on a younger version of Ryan Reynolds, however, the actor has never sported a man bun, one of the claims Baldoni’s team used in their argument that the character is based on their client.
Deadpool & Wolverine is streaming on Disney+, while It Ends With Us is available to watch on Netflix.
