Kevin Spacey has something to say about Guy Pearce‘s comments about their interaction while making the 1997 retro cop drama L.A. Confidential. Pearce has alleged more than once, most recently over the weekend, that his costar, whom others have accused of sexual misconduct, made him uncomfortable on the set.

“Grow up, Guy Pearce. You are not a victim,” Spacey captioned a Tuesday video post, which you can see in full below.

“I’ve now read the comments that you made about me and, while I would have preferred not to have to play this out in the media, you obviously have your own reasons for wanting to do exactly that,” the American Beauty star said to the camera. “But we worked together a long time ago, you know. If I did something then that upset you, you could’ve reached out to me. We could’ve had that conversation. But instead you decided to speak to the press who are now, of course, coming after me, because they would like to know what my response is to the things that you said.”

He said that if Pearce really wants to know his response, it’s simple: “Grow up.”

Spacey claimed, too, that Pearce had voluntarily spent time with him after they made their movie.

“Did you also, by the way, tell the press that, a year after we shot L.A. Confidential, you flew to Savannah, Georgia, while I was shooting Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, just to spend time with me?” Spacey said. “Did you tell the press that too? Or does that not fit into the victim narrative you have going?”

Speaking in a tone that sometimes bordered on taunting, Spacey continued.

“So anyway, I apologize that I didn’t get the message that you don’t like spending time with me. I mean, maybe there was another reason, I don’t know. But that doesn’t make any sense that you would have just been leading me on,” Spacey said. “But here you are now, on a mission some 28 years later, after I’ve been through hell and back, to do what? Just in time to stop the bad guy, huh? Is that what’s going on here? What took you so long? Did your horse run out of gas? I mean, you want to have a conversation, I’m happy to do so, anytime, any place. We can even do it here, live on X if you like. I’ve got nothin’ to hide. But, Guy, you need to grow up. You are not a victim.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a Pearce representative for comment.

Spacey has been accused of sexual misconduct by multiple men, most notably actor Anthony Rapp, who went public in 2017 with his allegations, which he said took place when he was 14. While Rapp subsequently sued Spacey, he was unsuccessful. Spacey has denied the allegations.

In Pearce’s recent comments on an episode of Scott Feinberg’s Awards Chatter podcast, the Memento star said he “probably was a victim to a degree, I was certainly not a victim by any means to the extent that other people have been to sexual predators. But I did that thing that you do where you brush it off and go, ‘Ah, that’s nothing. Ah, no, that’s nothing.’ And I did that for five months.”

During filming on the two-time Oscar winner, which costarred Russell Crowe, Kim Basinger, David Strathairn, Danny DeVito, James Cromwell, and Simon Baker, Pearce said that he tried to ignore Spacey’s behavior.

“I was scared of Kevin because he’s quite an aggressive man and quite extremely charming and brilliant at what he does — really impressive, etc.,” Pearce said. “He holds a room remarkably. But I was young and susceptible, and he targeted me, no question.”

Pearce recalled telling his wife, “The only days I feel safe is when [Baker] is on set because I’m dumped like a hot potato, and [Spacey] focuses on [Baker] because he’s 10 times prettier than I am.”

When he saw the headlines accusing Spacey of sexual misconduct, Pearce said he “broke down and sobbed.” When the actor’s name arose, Pearce “blurted it all out,” all his feelings about his experience with Spacey.

In his new podcast interview, Pearce said he already had “a couple of confrontations with Kevin” that “got ugly,” but he didn’t offer any details.

Pearce is a first-time Oscar nominee this year for his supporting role in The Brutalist.
