Kampgrounds of America (KOA) officially opened its newest site, the Slidell KOA Journey, welcoming travelers to an inviting and tranquil campground in southern Louisiana. Led by Vince Hayward and Gale York, seasoned experts in outdoor hospitality, the campground aims to provide a peaceful retreat for guests while boosting local tourism through its convenient proximity to the vibrant city of New Orleans.

Hayward and York bring a combined wealth of experience in managing recreational vehicle centers, making them well-equipped to oversee the operations of the Slidell KOA Journey.

The Slidell KOA Journey is designed to offer a peaceful escape from urban noise while providing easy access to some of Louisiana’s most iconic attractions. Located about 30 minutes from the heart of New Orleans, the campground allows visitors to explore well-known sites such as the French Quarter, Jackson Square, and St. Louis Cathedral. These nearby landmarks provide a cultural backdrop for guests looking to experience Cajun and Creole traditions.

The campground also features a range of amenities to enhance guest experiences. Travelers can choose from full hookup RV sites or elevated tent sites, each designed to offer privacy and comfort. Nestled among mature oak and cypress trees, the property provides a scenic environment where guests can relax and recharge after a day of exploration.

“We built our KOA campground in Slidell to take advantage of the area’s natural beauty and meet the growing demand for outdoor recreation,” Hayward said in a press release.

“This location is the perfect spot for people to reconnect with nature while enjoying a comfortable, family-friendly environment. Our goal is to create a space that blends relaxation, adventure, and community, all while promoting eco-friendly practices,” Hayward added.

The economic impact of campgrounds like the Slidell KOA Journey extends beyond the site’s boundaries. According to KOA’s Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campers contribute an average of $156 per day to local economies. The Slidell KOA’s location near local restaurants and markets aligns with the growing trend of campers seeking authentic regional experiences.

Beyond its location, the Slidell KOA Journey stands out for its convenience and amenities tailored to the needs of modern travelers. KOA Journey campgrounds are designed to provide hassle-free stops for RV owners, with long pull-thru sites, after-hours check-in, and essential RV supplies available on-site. These features make the Slidell KOA Journey an attractive option for those traveling through the Gulf Coast region.

In addition to its amenities, the campground offers recreational options to enrich guests’ stays. These include a seasonal swimming pool, fishing areas, a gaga ball pit, and nature trails. The campground’s community fire area encourages social interaction among guests, while children can enjoy a dedicated playground space. A dog park and a store provide added convenience for families and solo travelers alike.

Future plans for the campground include significant expansions aimed at further enhancing the guest experience. “We’re thrilled to begin Phase Two of our expansion this summer, which will bring even more amenities and events to enhance the guest experience,” York said.

“This phase will include an educational element along our nature trails, an additional 120 RV sites, and cabin accommodations,” York added.
