La Quinta Resort & Club, a long-time hideaway for presidents and Hollywood’s elite in Greater Palm Springs, just completed major renovations ahead of its centennial celebration next year.
“We like to refer to it more as a ‘restoration’ than a renovation,” Chris George, the area director of marketing, told Travel + Leisure. “Our goal was to preserve the resort’s historic charm—the same atmosphere our guests have cherished for nearly a century—while seamlessly integrating modern technology and amenities that today’s traveler expects. As we celebrate our 99th year, guests will appreciate how we’ve thoughtfully enhanced the property without losing its classic character, allowing them to enjoy updated comforts in a setting that still feels timeless and familiar.”
Led by architecture firm Leo A Daly, the updates elevate the guest experience while maintaining the resort’s historic Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. Contemporary furnishings and revamped bathrooms with sleek vanities enhance the resort’s 620 elegant casitas and 98 villas. Returning guests will notice the lobby’s brighter look, with colorful hand-painted tiles bordering fireplaces and doorways, comfortable seating, bold area rugs, and rich greenery in large ceramic planters.
Plunge at the Renker Pool, an adults-only retreat named for the resort’s first professional tennis coach, was part of the renovations. “We’ve created a true adults-only oasis featuring two zero-edge, climate-controlled pools, 15 private cabanas, a brand new bar, a convenient grab-and-go market, fire pits for cooler evenings, and a hot spa,” George said. “The feedback from our guests has been overwhelmingly positive.”

On-site dining options range from casual dining at The Marketplace and poolside Centre Court Café to Morgan’s in the Desert, the resort’s signature steakhouse named after the property’s founder, Walter H. Morgan. The fine dining eatery will also unveil renovations in its interior layout and bar later this spring.
Guests can also enjoy the award-winning Spa La Quinta, a wellness retreat with an extensive menu of massages, facials, and therapeutic treatments. Featuring a full-service salon and boutique in addition to locker rooms, showers, and eucalyptus steam rooms, the spa offers an outdoor garden sanctuary with a jacuzzi, a wading fountain, lounge chairs, and a covered patio. There’s a fireplace for chilly days and misters to keep guests comfortable during summer.
The resort is famous for its world-class tennis facilities, including the sunken tournament-style center court, along with 22 more tennis courts. Guests can also sign up for lessons and daily clinics during the BNP Paribas Open, held nearby at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. A stay at La Quinta Resort & Club Resort also grants access to eight pickleball courts and five championship golf courses, including the famed Stadium Course, Greg Norman Course, and Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West.
The desert resort boasts 45 acres of winding pathways, charming courtyards, lush gardens, and citrus and palm trees, surrounded by the stunning Santa Rosa Mountains just 25 miles southeast of Palm Springs. Nearly a century after opening, La Quinta Resort & Club remains a beloved destination.
“As we approach our centennial year, it is an incredible honor to preserve the rich legacy of La Quinta Resort & Club while enhancing the guest experience for generations to come,” Dermot Connolly, the resort’s vice president and managing director, said in a press release shared with T+L. “This renovation celebrates our unique history and natural surroundings while delivering the contemporary luxury expected by today’s travelers.”
