There is no career move so bad that Lady Gaga can’t joke about it in her Gagalogue.

The megastar brought mayhem to studio 8H last night as both the host and musical guest for the latest episode of Saturday Night Live‘s 50th season. Along with performing songs from her latest album and serenading a mouse, Gaga poked fun at some of her past choices — including a now-controversial SNL performance from 2013.

“I’m so happy to be back at SNL. The last time I hosted was in 2013. And every aspect of my performance aged amazingly,” Gaga said, fidgeting nervously during her opening monologue. “Because there’s no need to Google ‘SNL 2013 Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly.'”

As the crowd burst into laughter, she added, “I won’t bring it up! ‘Cause that would be bad.”

Back in 2013 — years before R. Kelly would be convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking — the R&B singer teamed up with Gaga for a live rendition of her Artpop track “Do What U Want  (With My Body),” on which he was featured. The choreography and lyrics were notably suggestive, and were re-examined when allegations against Kelly came to light in 2019. That year, Gaga issued an apology for working with him and removed the song from several streaming platforms, replacing it with a remixed version featuring Christina Aguilera.

After poking fun at the R. Kelly collab, Gaga turned to a more recent career stumble: Joker: Folie à Deux

“I’m an actor now. And I’ve been very diligent about selecting films that can showcase my craft as a serious actor,” she began. “Films such as Joker 2. Apparently people thought it was awesome. Joaquin [Phoenix, her costar] and I even got nominated for a Razzie, which is an award for the worst films of the year. So… we won. For worst screen duo.”

But the singer has already found the silver lining. “Joke’s on them — I love winning things!” she declared in the monologue. “And my Razzie brings me one step closer to an EGORT. It’s like an EGOT, but it’s hurtful.”

The 2024 film garnered much hype following the announcement that it would feature Gaga as the titular villain’s partner in crime, Harley Quinn, but Folie à Deux ultimately earned mixed reviews and had a disappointing theatrical run. But while the film itself was tepidly received, Gaga was widely praised for her performance. Her two prior theatrical ventures — Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born and Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci — also garnered her kudos, with the former earning her an Oscar win for Best Original Song.

Gaga closed out her monologue with a vow, telling the crowd just how seriously she took the hosting gig.

“I’m from New York City, so hosting SNL is so extra special for me,” she said. “Tonight, I promise to act, to sing… and to not do Joker 3.
