The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced temporary access restrictions at Lake Eaton Campground and Day Use Area to accommodate culvert repair work.
The restrictions will be in place from March 1 through May 15 and will impact campground access, lake entry, and snowmobile travel.
Located just north of the village of Long Lake in Hamilton County, Lake Eaton is a popular destination for campers and outdoor enthusiasts. According to an article published by Adirondack Almanack, construction crews will be active on-site throughout the repair period.
The repair project includes replacing a failing culvert that allows water to flow beneath park roads. DEC officials noted that delaying the repairs could lead to larger infrastructure issues, potentially impacting future campground operations.
Lake Eaton Campground offers convenient access to the water with a boat launch operated by DEC. Located on Route 30, about two miles west of the Village of Long Lake, the beach launch provides parking for up to 12 vehicles with trailers.
A day-use fee is required when the campground is open. The site also features accessible amenities, including a hand boat launch, picnic area, and a beach access route, ensuring inclusivity for visitors.
The lake supports both coldwater and warmwater fishing, making it a popular destination for anglers. It has sustained a strong coldwater fishery for decades, with wild landlocked salmon thriving in its depths.
Ice fishing is also a popular activity during the winter months, with the lake’s diverse fish population providing year-round appeal.
