Lanterns star Poorna Jagannathan may have quietly spoiled the upcoming DC series’ main antagonist.

Speaking to pop culture reporter Miguel (@mpmorales), Jagannathan discussed her time on the hotly-anticipated Green Lantern series. “I couldn’t have loved the writing for Green Lantern more,” Jagannathan said. “Like Deli Boys, the Green Lantern series is extraordinarily well written and my character is extraordinarily well-built… And also the way I can describe all the characters. We have all the characters we know and love… the Lanterns, the Guardians, Sinestro and that world is still intact and everyone is presented as heroes and villains at the same time. And that’s what makes the writing so complex, layered and so wonderful.”

George Lucas’ Rumored Cameo in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Finally Revealed 26 Years Later

The rumors about George Lucas’ mystery cameo in The Phantom Menace have finally been confirmed 26 years after the film’s release.

Lanterns is set to bring the world of the Green Lantern Corps crashing into James Gunn and Peter Safran’s take on the DC Universe. The series stars Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Hal Jordan and John Stewart, a veteran Green Lantern retirement and new recruit to the Corps, respectively. Lanterns also stars Kelly Macdonald as Kelly, a small town Sheriff dedicated to her home, Garret Dillahunt as conspiracy-minded cowboy William Macon, Ulrich Thomsen as the rogue Green Lantern, Sinestro, and Jagannathan as the cunning and enigmatic Zoe.

The Series Isn’t Set in Outer Space

Gunn recently opened up about what fans can expect from Lanterns, noting that the series will be a seriously grounded take on the Green Lanterns of DC Comics. “They’re terrestrial-bound. It’s not in outer space. We don’t have a thousand Green Lanterns or any of that stuff,” Gunn explained. “It’s a grounded story that’s being told through another lens in a way that’s really — it’s an HBO series, and it’s going to be an HBO series. I’m happy with that and I love the scripts.”

Seth Green Comments On Possible Return as Oz in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot

Seth Green discusses a potential return to the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the hotly-anticipated follow-up series.

While Jagannathan may have spoiled Sinestro’s role in the series’ plot, which isn’t much of a surprise considering his decades-long comic book history as a villain, she previously promised that Lanterns was the first to make her “understand why there’s an NDA.”

As Jagannathan noted, “Everything is so insane. It is the best writing that I have ever read. I don’t know anything about sci-fi, and I don’t care, actually. But this script makes sci-fi seem like my world. It makes it so accessible to me… So it’s the best sci-fi script I’ve ever read.”

Lanterns is currently expected to premiere sometime in 2026.
