Amy Sherman-Palladino stans, the wait is over: The first trailer for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creator’s new comedy series, Étoile, is finally here.

Palladino’s new venture with Prime Video, co-created with her husband and longtime creative partner Daniel Palladino, is set in the competitive world of ballet, reunites viewers with some Palladino-verse faves, and introduces exciting new faces.

Étoile centers on the heads of two rival dance companies, played by Mrs. Maisel heartthrob Luke Kirby and French cinema icon Charlotte Gainsbourg. When Gainsbourg’s character Genevieve reaches her limit over problems at her venerable institution, she proposes a screwball idea to Jack (Kirby), her American counterpart, who’s similarly struggling: “We trade our top talent.”

Enter the top talent: the chic and rebellious Cheyenne (Lou de Laâge), representing Paris, and New York’s top twirler, played by Maestro star Gideon Glick. They rage at their respective handlers, with Cheyenne’s rant over sacrificing motherhood (despite hating kids) showcasing some of that classic Palladino quirk: “They are a drain on the world, and are boring to talk to, but that doesn’t mean I did not give them up!”

The trailer is packed with zingers, but the stakes are unambiguously high. “I know you are the great Cheyenne, queen of the dance,” Kirby’s character tells Cheyenne, “but this swap is very important — so that this magnificent art form that you and I both love can continue to exist!”

The trailer also features David Alvarez (West Side Story), Simon Callow (Outlander), David Haig (Two Weeks Notice), professional dancer LaMay Zhang in her screen debut, and most excitingly, Gilmore Girls favorite Yanic Truesdale, who plays Genevieve’s faithful assistant Raphael.

Truesdale excitedly announced his casting in a January Instagram post, writing, “I’m very excited to share that I’ll be reuniting with my artistic mother who gave birth to my [career] in the US on her new series Étoile. The icing on this already delicious cake is that I’ll be filming in Paris for 4 months.”

The actor played Michel Gerard, the crotchety right-hand man of Lauren Graham‘s Lorelai Gilmore, across all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls, quickly becoming a beloved member of the Palladino repertory company. This is the Palladinos’ first new series since Mrs. Maisel aired its finale in 2023.

Ètoile premieres on Prime Video on April 24.
