A Man on the Inside reunited Ted Danson with Mike Schur after having worked together on The Good Place. The series has been renewed for Season 2, and new details are coming out.

A Man on the Inside Season 2 has added a very familiar face: Mary Steenburgen. The Academy Award and Golden Globe winner, who is married to the lead star, will join the series as a lead character, Netflix confirmed.

Executive producers Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters tease the possibility of Adolescence Season 2, after its overwhelmingly positive reception.

Per the streaming giant, Steenburgen will play Mona Margadoff, a former musician who factors heavily in the case Charles is trying to solve. Deadline further revealed that the series will take an anthology format.

Season 1 followed Charles, a retired man whose wife recently passed away. To avoid being feeling alone, he answered to an ad that sent him undercover to solve a case about missing jewelry at a retirement home. According to the outlet, the new season will follow him sleuthing at a liberal arts college. This will come in handy for Charles, who was a retired engineering college professor.

A Man on the Inside Season 1 also teased at the new location. Following his stint with the retirement home, Charles went to a college to offer his services as a guest lecturer. It also featured a sneaky The Good Place reunion with Darcy Carden (Janet) and Kristen Bell (Eleanor).

This will not be the first time Danson and Steenburgen share the screen together. They played a couple on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and 1996 comedy series Ink, and Setenburgen made a guest appearance in The Good Place‘s series finale, as well as Becker, Bored To Death, and Mr. Mayor.

A Man on the Inside Had Major Success

The comedy series premiered to stunning, near-perfect reviews. It currently has a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score from the critics, alongside the Certified Fresh, and 91% from the audience on the Popcornmeter. It debuted at the top of Netflix’s Most Popular English TV list, and stayed in the Top 10 for five weeks. It was also named one of AFI’s 2024 TV programs of the year. Ted Danson received Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for the role.

The series is based on Maite Alberdi’s Academy Award-nominated 2020 documentary The Mole Agent. The original followed a private investigator who hired an elderly man to go undercover at a nursing home, as they had been hired to investigate if the nursing home was mistreating his mother. The Netflix comedy series took a lighter approach and focused more on the characters.

Season 1 also focused on Charles’ relationship with his daughter, Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis), and his friendship with Calbert Graham (Stephen McKinley Henderson). They are likely to return, as well as Lilah Richcreek Estrada as Julie, and Stephanie Beatriz as Didi.

A Man on the Inside Season 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, but it has been teased to return on Netflix in late 2025, a year after the first season.
