Monster Hunter Wilds has a well-crafted character creation system that lets you change every aspect of your Hunter before you start the game. After spending hours creating the perfect character, having their face covered by an ugly Helmet is not exactly what many players would want.
As it turns out, if you don’t like the Helmet’s look or any other part of the clothing, you can easily hide it in Monster Hunter Wilds. And while the steps to doing so are pretty straightforward, finding the option can be tricky. Like most things, the game doesn’t explain how it works, and expects players to find it on their own.

How to Hide Helmets in Monster Hunter Wilds

The armor in Monster Hunter Wilds consists of five pieces: Helmet, Chest, Arms, Belt, and Legs. To hide your Helmet, you’ll first need to head to your Tent. This is where you can manage all your gear, switch to different weapons, or even customize the look of your Hunter. Switch to the Appearance tab and select the Equipment Appearance option. From the new window that pops up, you’ll find an option to toggle the visibility of different armor pieces. Simply toggle the Head section to hide the Helmet that you’re currently wearing.
You can further customize your Hunter’s clothing by hiding other armor pieces if you want from this menu. If you’re going for a minimal aesthetic or just want to see your character’s face while gathering Iron Ores or slaying Monsters, this is a great way to customize your Hunter’s appearance.
The Change Appearance option in the Appearance menu lets you tweak the Hunter’s facial appearance.
Should You Hide Helmets in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Hiding the Helmet or any other piece of clothing has no impact on your defensive stats in Monster Hunter Wilds. It only affects the cosmetics of your character. You’ll still get the full benefit of wearing the armor piece, including the skills you get from it, even if you hide it in the Appearance menu.
So whether you should hide the Helmet or not depends entirely on how you want your character to look. If you spent hours creating the perfect character in the Character Creation menu, then it might be best to keep the Helmet toggled off so that you can see your Hunter’s Face during all the story cutscenes. Otherwise, you can leave it turned on to see what the entire armor set looks like in Monster Hunter Wilds.
