A planned glamping site near Resorts World in Solihull is progressing despite missing its original completion target.

The NEC Group, which received approval for the development last year, aims to introduce 59 glamping pods accommodating up to 236 guests.

The project is set to include various amenities such as a reception building with office spaces, communal areas, and enhanced woodland surroundings.

The development, positioned near Pendigo Lake and opposite the Resorts World complex, also features modern conveniences such as keyless entry through a mobile app and complimentary golf buggy transportation for guests.

According to a report by Birmingham Live, the initial plans showcased additional high-end amenities, including a spa, sauna, steam room, and hot tub.

Originally, the NEC Group projected an opening date by the end of 2024, but the timeline has shifted.

The group has been working through planning conditions set by Solihull Council, with progress updates recently reflected on the authority’s website.

One key milestone was reached on February 25 when council officers signed off on the discharge of condition 7, which pertains to drainage.

The NEC Group has also submitted an application to discharge several other conditions, including those related to cycle parking, construction management, lighting, and materials.

The consultation period for these conditions concluded though final approval is still pending. Once all required conditions are met, construction on the glamping site can commence.

This project reflects the growing interest in integrating luxury camping accommodations with existing entertainment and exhibition venues.

For outdoor hospitality professionals, the development highlights the potential of glamping as a complementary business model to established attractions.

By offering premium accommodations, venues like Resorts World can enhance guest experiences while expanding their revenue streams.

As the demand for experiential travel continues to grow, this project serves as an example of how location-based attractions can leverage glamping to appeal to a broader audience.

Whether as a standalone venture or an extension of an existing hospitality business, investing in high-end outdoor accommodations presents an opportunity for industry players to capitalize on evolving guest expectations.
