New Lodge Farm, a working livestock farm that has expanded into hospitality and leisure, has been named a finalist in the Countryside Alliance’s annual awards, which recognize rural businesses for their contributions to local communities.
The farm, owned by Simon and Sarah Singlehurst, is competing in the Rural Enterprise category, representing the Midlands region. The awards ceremony will take place later this year at the Houses of Parliament.
Located between Bulwick and Laxton on the North Northamptonshire border, New Lodge Farm has evolved beyond traditional agriculture, offering a range of services that cater to both visitors and the local community.
Alongside its livestock operations, the business features a farm shop, butchery, café, and restaurant. It has also developed an adult-only, five-star touring caravan, motorhome, camping, and glamping village, as well as a high-end swim spa.
Sarah Singlehurst emphasized the dedication that has gone into developing the business.
“We have worked particularly hard to ensure that our customers receive the best possible experience, and I think this is reflected in the business being nominated for this award,” she said in a report by Northamptonshire Telegraph.
The recognition highlights the increasing role of diversified rural enterprises in supporting the local economy and enhancing the visitor experience.
For outdoor hospitality businesses, the success of ventures like New Lodge Farm underscores the potential benefits of integrating agriculture with tourism and leisure services.
The farm’s nomination reflects a broader industry trend where farms and rural properties are adapting to new revenue streams, offering glamping, farm stays, and destination experiences that appeal to modern travelers.
With voting open until April 3, the outcome of the awards will offer further insight into the growing importance of multi-faceted rural businesses.
Singlehurst noted the potential impact of a win, stating, “We now need to go on further and win, not just for our business but to promote all businesses in our beautiful region of the country.”
