‘I Drew Manga Only To Be Rejected’: Oda Shares How He Came Up With One Piece

One Piece almost never existed as Oda kept getting rejected. This one shot saved his mangaka career.

Oda definitely has huge plans for this man, and his powers will be something like never seen before in the One Piece series, as confirmed by the author himself.

Gargling Figarland is Strong

Oda Emphasizes His Power

Gargling Figarland is a quite recent addition to the One Piece character roster. This man was first introduced during the events that took place in the final saga, right at the very beginning, following Wano, specifically during chapter 1086 of the manga. His introduction was quite impactful, as he executed another Celestial Dragon, Donquixote Mjosgard, which is something that shocked many fans as they believed all Celestial Dragons to be untouchable.

Many fans were definitely sad about Mjosgard’s death too, as he was the only known Celestial Dragon ally, converted by Queen Otohime.

Nevertheless, this showed fans the power and authority held by Saint Garling Figarland. To be able to execute another Celestial Dragon is definitely major. Until recent events in Egghead, Garling was just the leader of the Holy Knights, one of the strongest forces of the Celestial Dragons and World Government overall. Now, with developments in Egghead Island and the death of Saint Saturn, Garling was promoted to the position of Gorosei, or Five Elder.

I was ordered to fill in as the Godhead of Science and Defense. Now then, let’s get along, fellow Elders. — Garling Figarland

The Fiver Elders are tremendously powerful, and borderline immortal, so this is definitely a testament to his power. Oda had this to say about Figarland:

“Garling is strong. There’s a *reason* behind his strength.” — Eiichiro Oda

While this could mean many things for sure, fans know there is some specific reason for Garling’s power. The Figarland family, in general, showcases powerful individuals, notably Shanks, a Yonko, and Shamrock, the captain of the Holy Knights.

The secret of the Figarland family could perhaps be their great affinity to Haki, as Shanks has shown that he is the best Haki user out there at the moment. Fans will just have to wait and see what Garling Figarland really has in store as the story progresses in One Piece. Garling Figarland definitely has a huge role to play in One Piece’s Final Saga, in one way or another.
