Big Mom’s story is tied to Elbaf. Her return makes a lot of sense in One Piece.
Oda is going to play with these characters in a way that tugs at the heartstrings of the fans and brings them to tears, while at other times, filling them with anger. Of course, each Emperor has a specific role that Oda has assigned to them, and Buggy is no different in that regard. If anything, Buggy is actually a dark horse among the Emperor who most people laugh at, but in truth, this man actually carries great significance, and along with that, immense hidden potential, and that could come through one legendary figure in the One Piece world — Rocks D. Xebec
The Dichotomy Among The Four Emperors Of The Sea
- All The Current Emperors Are Linked
- Certain Pairs Reject Each Other As Opposites
When it comes to the Four Emperors of the One Piece world currently, there is a building pattern that Oda has established. First of all, fans must acknowledge the fact that the current order of the Four Emperors isn’t something that Oda pulled randomly. This has been in the making for years upon years, as is clear from the fact that Oda foreshadowed their rise on the cover of Volume 25. The four characters highlighted here were the ones who ended up becoming the Yonko in the future. Among the current Four Emperors, there are already certain dynamics at play.
It’s been a while since we’ve had kids on the ship, right Rayleigh? — Roger
For instance, Luffy and Blackbeard were introduced as opposites, arguing over cherry pies. Luffy thought the cherry pies were atrocious, while Blackbeard absolutely loved them. Luffy and Blackbeard are polar opposites in that they don’t agree on certain things. Meanwhile, Buggy and Shanks share the same relationship. Of course, unlike Luffy and Blackbeard, Buggy and Shanks are sworn brothers, but that doesn’t make them any less opposites. Buggy and Shanks were seen arguing over the North Pole and South Pole quite early in the story, which was supposedly their usual, and it just goes to show that they were always opposites. Moreover, while Shanks was talented, Buggy lacked the skills to make it to the top.
But, this isn’t the only relationship among the Four Emperors that Ora has highlighted. The current Yonko, Luffy, has directly been inspired by Shanks, since he’s the one who set him out on the path to be the Pirate King. Blackbeard, too, draws inspiration from a certain someone. Given that Blackbeard wants to be the King of the World and his sword is called the Saber of Xebec, it is clear that he is inspired by none other than Rocks D. Xebec. If Buggy were to have a link to Rocks, this parallel between Blackbeard and Luffy would be completed.
Buggy’s Hidden Past And Hidden True Identity
Buggy Could Be The Son Of Rocks D. Xebec
Continuing from the dichotomy of Shanks and Buggy, fans know that their pasts are the same yet very different. Both Shanks and Buggy were on Roger’s ship. But, the way they got there must’ve been wildly different. For one, fans know that Shanks is not actually from the West Blue, and that he’s truly born as a Celestial Dragon. This was confirmed to the fans in the Elbaf arc. Shanks is the true son of Garling Figarland, and the younger twin of Shamrock Figarland. Both of the brothers were in God Valley 38 years ago, and this is when Shanks was taken by Roger, mistaking him for treasure. Shanks, at the time, was a few months old, possibly close to a year old, depending on which month the God Valley Incident took place. Yet, fans know that Buggy and Shanks were raised together as babies on Roger’s ship, Oro Jackson. So, how exactly did Buggy get there?
The answer once again lies in the dichotomy. If Shanks was a Celestial Dragon, what would that make Buggy, who is always his opposite? A member of the D. And if Shanks was the son of a very strong Celestial Dragon, such as Garling, Buggy must’ve been the son of some strong pirate involved in the God Valley Incident, since he, too, is 39 years old currently. From the Pirates that took part in the God Valley Incident, fans know that Roger had Ace already, and apart from the Roger Pirates, there is only one major crew that took part in the events here. The Rocks Pirates. As such, just as Shanks came from the Celestial Dragon Garling, Buggy must’ve come from the pirate, Rocks.
This makes perfect sense, as, after the fall of Rocks, someone had to take care of Buggy. The Rocks Pirates themselves split on the island, so the only one who could’ve taken care of Buggy must’ve been someone not from the crew. Now, taking into consideration the dichotomy again, if Shanks was raised by pirates, who would’ve raised Buggy? The answer is the Marines. Garp was active in God Valley, and if a baby was found by him, or by any other Marine, then perhaps, they could’ve tried to rescue the child.

Then, the question arises as to how Buggy ended up on Roger’s ship? The answer is simple. Knowing the Government, if anyone figured out that Buggy was the successor of Rocks, he’d be killed. While searching for Roger’s son, the Government killed many pregnant women, and spared no child they suspected. Clearly, an individual such as Rocks couldn’t be allowed to have a continuing bloodline. But, Garp, who was on God Valley, could’ve saved the day. Garp must’ve entrusted Buggy to Roger after rescuing him from God Valley. This brings things a full circle. Just as Garp entrusted Buggy to Roger, Roger entrusted Ace to Garp, showcasing the relationship these two shared.
Buggy’s True Identity And Name Is Still Hidden
Fans Don’t Know Buggy’s True Identity Yet
Right now, Buggy is rising in prominence, but this isn’t the full extent of the status that he will achieve. For one, his true identity isn’t even known yet. Curiously enough, there have been a few hints about Buggy’s true lineage.
Who are you calling Red Nose? — Buggy
One Piece once collaborated with a clothing brand, Made in World, and Buggy’s merch had the following description:
His real name and true face are still unknown, making him a character shrouded in mystery.
Furthermore, there is solid evidence in the story that Buggy is hiding his real face. Buggy’s red nose, which is considered by many to be a part of his face, might not be real after all. In One Piece 1095’s cover, Buggy’s nose is stolen. This suggests the nose isn’t real and that Buggy’s true face is hidden. Perhaps, the reason to hide the face is simply that Buggy looks too much like the late Pirate, Rocks D. Xebec.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1142, is set to be March 9, 2025.
