This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf arc.
Summary

- The new Iron Giant introduced in chapter 1144 is linked to an Ancient Giant from the First World.
- Franky, tied to Luffy as his Iron Giant, is set to play a major role in the final war.
One Piece’s Elbaf arc keeps getting more intense, and fans know that in this segment of the Final Saga, Oda will continue to drop massive lore to build up towards something much greater that is to come. Oda had already stunned the fans with absolutely massive reveals thanks to the Harley, and although some fans might believe that that’s all, they couldn’t be more wrong.

There is more to come from Elbaf, and One Piece chapter 1144 proved just that to the fans. Thanks to another major lore drop, fans now know of a particular Giant from 3000 years ago from the One Piece world who connects directly to none other than Franky, the shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates. Clearly, there is a major set-up for Franky to be extremely important in endgame One Piece, and fans absolutely cannot wait to see how the story progresses.
Franky And Ripley Come Across A 3000-Year-Old Giant
- Ripley Showed The Harley To Franky
- Franky Was Introduced To Another Iron Giant
One Piece’s Egghead arc introduced fans to an Iron Giant from the Void Century. This Iron Giant was extremely important in the arc, largely because it was down to this Iron Giant that the Straw Hat Pirates were even able to leave the island in the first place. However, at the end of the arc, the Iron Giant shut down following the massive blast of Conqueror’s Haki that it unleashed from Joy Boy. At the time, fans were made aware of the fact that the Iron Giant is named Emet, and that it was a close friend of Joy Boy. Unfortunately, the two were separated due to Joy Boy’s eventual death.
I’m sorry, Joy Boy! I’m sorry that I couldn’t make you King! — Emet
Now, in One Piece Chapter 1144, Oda has introduced fans to another Giant, this time, from an era long before the Void Century. While Emet existed 900 years ago, which is when it was likely built, the new Ancient Giant is from an era 3000 years ago. In other words, the Ancient Iron Giant resting in Elbaf right now is none other than a figure from the First World.
As fans know, the world of One Piece has been destroyed twice before. The first destruction came after the First World. This was when the Earth God and the Serpent of Hellfire together destroyed the world after Nika’s emergence.

In the Second World, which was 900 years ago, life came back once again, and this time around the Ancient Kingdom ended up becoming the hub of advancements. 20 rulers banded against it and eventually, a great war was fought, which saw the destruction of the kingdom and the death of Joy Boy.
Right now, One Piece is in the Third World, yet relics from the bygone times remain. Franky and Ripley together came across the Iron Giant from 3000 years ago, which looks like a base for a scientific facility, in One Piece chapter 1144, and its meaning is clear.
What the True Importance Of The Iron Giant In One Piece Is
The Iron Giant Is To Nika What Franky Is To Luffy
It is clear now that every Sun God that existed in One Piece was tied to an Iron Giant. For instance, fans know that Emet was tied to Joy Joy and was always by his side. Joy Boy eventually died, but not before fighting alongside Emet. Emet even apologized to Joy Boy for not being able to make him King.
Listen, Emet! I will store my strongest Haki in you. Use it when your back is against the wall! — Joy Boy
Similarly, now, fans know that Sun God Nika existed in the First World, 3000 years ago. It appears that the Sun God had his own Iron Giant, and this one looks even more menacing than the one fans saw in the Egghead arc. Clearly, this Iron Giant must’ve been by Nika’s side at all times.

Akainu is a powerful character in One Piece. Oda has stated that this character is stronger than Akainu.
Now, fans know that the Third Sun God, Luffy, must also have his own Iron Giant, and he already acquired one long ago. Luffy’s Iron Giant is none other than the cyborg, Franky.
Franky Has A Big Role To Play In The Future

Just like Joy Boy and Nika had their own Iron Giants, Luffy will have Franky by his side in the Final War, trying to make him King. This means fans should expect major growth from Franky in the upcoming arcs. Right now, Franky isn’t on the same level as the Iron Giant Emet, but in the future, Franky could be powered by the Drums of Liberation instead of Cola, just like Emet was. This would make Franky the true representation of the Iron Giant of this era, and unlike the last two Iron Giants, Franky will not fail.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1144, is set to be March 30, 2025.
