Unfortunately for him, it took over 2 decades for the final saga to begin, but nonetheless, it is here. Here’s what Oda has said about the Final Saga in the past:

I’ve already decided on the last panel and how the last chapter will be. In the final saga, I’ll focus on not only Straw Hats but also on events happening in the whole world. The problem is how many years it will take to start the final saga. – Eiichiro Oda

Oda Wants To End One Piece In A Big Party

Oda Plans For A Happy One Piece Ending

As fans know, One Piece is a story meant to mesmerize readers, inspire them, and give them a sense of adventure that they’ve never felt before. One Piece is a story that makes them feel all that. For such a story to have a sad or tragic ending wouldn’t be fitting. A story that has freedom as its core concept can only end in the dawn coming to the whole world and Oda agrees. Here’s what Oda had to say about how he wants One Piece to end:

The reason I don’t want to draw scenes where people die is because I want to draw a party after the battle. If someone dies, you can’t have an enjoyable party. A party is my ideal form of friendship. I want to end with One Piece with a big party. — Oda

At the end of the day, Oda wants the end of One Piece to be special. He doesn’t want too many deaths, but fans know that there will be quite a few. That said, all the Straw Hats will have completed their goals by the end, Luffy will have become the Pirate King, and the war against the World Government would’ve wrapped up as well. Most importantly, the world would be free, and there would be no more slavery under the eyes of the Sun God Nika. Food would be there for everyone to eat, and that’s the world Luffy wants to build.

There will be some sadness sprinkled in as well. For instance, fans know that the Straw Hat Pirates might end up going their own ways once their journey is completed, and that does make for a very bittersweet end as well, but it is one that fans should prepare themselves for. Regardless, One Piece’s ending is going to be absolutely incredible, and it’ll truly be a story for the ages.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1143, is set to be March 23, 2025.
