Onguma Safari Camps is preparing to expand its offerings with the launch of Onguma Trails Camp on April 1.
Located on the edge of Etosha National Park in Namibia, the new property will provide guided walking safaris throughout the winter season, running through September.
Designed as an exclusive experience, the camp accommodates only eight guests at a time and features four luxury bell tents, each equipped with en-suite outdoor bathrooms and private wood-fired hot tubs.
Guests will participate in daily guided walks spanning approximately four to five miles, allowing them to experience the region’s wildlife and ecosystem up close.
In addition to the walking safaris, the experience includes bush meals, sundowner game drives, and evening sessions with conservation experts who offer insights into the reserve’s ecology.
The initiative aligns with a growing trend in the safari industry toward immersive, low-impact tourism that emphasizes sustainability and conservation education.
Onguma Trails Camp is part of Onguma’s broader portfolio, which includes five lodges within its 86,935-acre private game reserve.
The reserve is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including lions, leopards, and the rare black rhino, making it a sought-after destination for nature-focused tourism.
The camp itself incorporates sustainable practices, using solar power and ecofriendly amenities, reflecting an increasing demand from eco-conscious travelers.
For professionals in the outdoor hospitality and glamping industries, Onguma’s approach highlights key industry trends: high-end, small-scale, and conservation-oriented experiences.
With travelers seeking more exclusive, nature-immersive stays, properties that offer intimate, adventure-based accommodations could see growing demand.
This shift suggests an opportunity for businesses to develop unique, sustainable experiences that blend luxury with environmental responsibility.
Rates for Onguma Trails Camp start at approximately $1,370 per person, double occupancy, according to a report by Travel Weekly.
Guests must be at least 16 years old and meet certain physical fitness requirements. The camp can be booked as a standalone experience or in combination with stays at Onguma’s other properties.
