Open Road Resorts has acquired the Santa Fe KOA Holiday, a popular campground situated in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The acquisition marks the second KOA property in the company’s expanding portfolio and reflects a continued commitment to enhancing guest experiences while promoting sustainable practices in the outdoor tourism sector.
Kampgrounds of America (KOA) congratulated Open Road Resorts’ founders, Chase Becker and Jim Omstrom, on their latest venture. With a strong focus on guest satisfaction, Open Road Resorts aims to implement a range of upgrades to the campground while preserving its distinct charm.
“We’ve had our eye on the Santa Fe market for a long time, and when we heard the prior owners were considering selling, we jumped on the opportunity,” Becker said in a press release. The region’s rich history, cultural attractions, and abundant outdoor activities make it a destination for travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation.
Nearby national parks and hiking trails also draw outdoor enthusiasts, making the campground a strategic investment for Open Road Resorts. “Santa Fe offers something for everyone,” Becker added. “We’re excited to enhance this property while maintaining the unique charm that has made it a favorite for visitors.”
Plans for the Santa Fe KOA Holiday include significant infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving guest experiences. “The prior owners built a fantastic campground, and we’re focused on continuing that legacy,” Omstrom explained.
Open Road Resorts is currently adding over 50 full hookup RV sites, constructing a new bathhouse and laundry facility, and creating communal spaces such as a community fire pit and gazebo area.
These enhancements are designed to provide guests with more comfort and opportunities to engage with fellow travelers. The company’s approach emphasizes thoughtful improvements that balance modern amenities with natural surroundings, ensuring that visitors can enjoy both convenience and a connection to nature.
According to KOA’s annual Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, campgrounds play a vital role in local economies. The report notes that the average camper spends $156 daily during their stay, contributing to businesses such as restaurants, shops, and local attractions.
Open Road Resorts aims to further boost the local economy through the campground’s expansion. “By expanding the park, we hope to drive increased tourism to the area, benefiting local shops, restaurants, tour guides, and more,” he said.
The Santa Fe KOA Holiday currently offers a variety of amenities designed to cater to diverse traveler needs. These include a retail store and gift shop, an enclosed game room, a playground, and a KampK9 dog park.
Guests can also enjoy the unique Pocket Park, featuring a putting green, cornhole, and horseshoes. These facilities contribute to making the campground a memorable destination for families, solo travelers, and groups alike.
