Peaky Blinders, the show which ran for six seasons on BBC in the UK and is streaming on Netflix in the US, will soon be coming back to screens. With the movie announced in December 2023 as a follow-up to the series, titled The Immortal Man, fans have been clamoring for details for the return of their favorite Brummie-based criminals to the screen.

After months of production updates and casting announcements of returning and new characters, series creator Steven Knight has given fans some major updates on the progress of the film. Firstly, that it will have a full theatrical release and, secondly, according to Knight, the first edit is “mind blowingly good.” Knight seems pretty sure of this too, as he told The Playlist while speaking about his show A Thousand Blows.

28 Years Later Producer Shares a Disappointing Update on Cillian Murphy’s Return

Fans hoping to see Cillian Murphy’s Jim return in 28 Years Later get disappointing news from one of the film’s producers.

“It was never promoted massively, but people just found it and told each other about it,” he said of the show. “And the way that they’re so passionate about it, I really want them to be watching this all together in one building because the communication has all been virtual, which is fine. But I do want this to be in cinemas so that people can sit there together and watch this thing happen.”

It was never promoted massively, but people just found it and told each other about it.

Speaking about the film itself, Knight revealed little about the plot but felt the core cast of the “best British acting talent all in one place” assured its awesomeness. It’s a star-studded cast: Cillian Murphy, Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson, Stephen Graham, etc. A great lineup of talent, with potential for their characters to expand, like Murphy’s Thomas Shelby, as Knight is already considering future stories in the franchise.

He said, “…we got plenty more story if we want to tell it. We can just keep going; just keep going through time. As long as there’s an appetite for it and people want it and I’ve got stories to tell, then why not?”

RUMOR: Cillian Murphy Eyed for Key Role in Harry Potter Reboot Series (But Not Voldemort)

Is the actor making his debut in the Harry Potter world?

Peaky Blinders, The ‘Peak’ of British Television

Peaky Blinders follows the exploits of a Birmingham-based gang of criminals from the Shelby family in the early 20th century. The gang is run by Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy), who seeks to gain his family power and influence through criminal activities. Throughout the show’s six season run, the gang takes part in robbery, racketeering, illegal bookmaking, and outright violence – unless it’s a wedding, of course.

The series had some amazing guest characters throughout its run: Anya Taylor-Joy, Sam Neill, Sam Claflin, Tom Hardy, and Adrien Brody, just to name a few – the latter of which now has a second Oscar to his name. The show wasn’t just star-studded; it was one of the greatest shows on TV for a number of years. Its second season got a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, as did Seasons 3 and 6, with the others holding in the high eighties.

As fans might imagine from this, there are some pretty high expectations for The Immortal Man, and Knight seems convinced the movie will deliver. He isn’t the only one, of course. Michael Gray, the actor who plays Finn Cole, has given his two cents on the film despite being absent, reckoning it will be a spectacular addition to a fantastic franchise.

“I think it’s going to be brilliant. Steven and Cillian are a great, great team, and I don’t doubt that the fans are going to love it,” Cole told THR.

Peaky Blinders Season 1-6 can be streamed now on Netflix, with The Immortal Man set to release later this year.
