Peewit Caravan Park in Felixstowe has raised £7,668.01 for Parkinson’s UK during its 2024 fundraising season, highlighting how holiday parks can engage their communities for charitable causes.
The family-run park organized a series of fundraising events throughout the season, including bingo and quiz nights, tabletop sales, and an annual summer funday.
The funday alone raised £800, thanks in part to local businesses such as Deben Butchers, which provided a BBQ for the event.
Other notable activities included the August ‘Not the Barnless Dance’ and an October auction where guests bid on unique items. The fundraising season concluded with a Fish & Chip Supper on October 26.
Beth Condie, Community Fundraiser – East Anglia at Parkinson’s UK, commended the park’s efforts, saying:
“We are so grateful to the team at Peewit Caravan Park and their incredible residents for their continued support. Their creativity and enthusiasm for hosting events not only brought the community together but also raised funds that will help us provide life-changing support to people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones.”
According to a report by National World, the decision to support Parkinson’s UK stemmed from the park’s personal connection to the cause, as several long-term customers have been diagnosed with the condition.
Chris Smith, Director at Peewit Caravan Park, emphasized the importance of giving back, stating:
“We are proud to be able to play a small part in supporting such an important charity that impacts so many lives. Throughout the years we’ve seen many customers being diagnosed with Parkinson’s so we wanted to help. We would like to thank our very generous customers that donated and helped organize the events.”
This fundraising effort not only demonstrates how holiday parks can contribute to charitable initiatives but also highlights the potential benefits of engaging guests and the local community through meaningful events.
For holiday park operators, philanthropic initiatives can foster stronger customer relationships, enhance community ties, and create positive brand associations—all while supporting important causes.
Kirsty Berrigan and Rebecca Landolt, Heads of Community Fundraising at Parkinson’s UK, praised the park’s efforts, stating:
“We are so grateful to everyone at Peewit Caravan Park for selecting Parkinson’s UK as their charity of the year and hosting all of the incredible fundraisers for the charity season.”
As the outdoor hospitality sector continues to evolve, industry professionals may find that integrating charitable partnerships into their business strategy can offer both social and commercial benefits.
From strengthening guest loyalty to increasing visibility within the local community, initiatives like Peewit Caravan Park’s fundraising campaign can set a valuable precedent for other operators looking to make a difference.
