  • The origami artist offers tutorials for over 110 Pokemon creations on the their YouTube channel.

An artistic Pokemon fan has revealed an intricately folded Moltres origami sculpture that is turning the heads of a lot of long-time players. Moltres remains a popular creature in the Pokemon fandom more than 29 years after its original release, and this skillful artist is providing step-by-step instructions for dedicated fans who want to build their own.

Part of the Legendary Bird Trio, Moltres was one of only four Legendary Pokemon released in the original pair of games on the Game Boy in 1996. That high status, along with Pokemon Gen 1’s small selection of fire types, made it a welcome member on many teams back in its debut games, especially for players who chose Squirtle or Bulbasaur at the start. Its popularity remains to this day, as it is still a sought-after find in mainline games and spin-offs like Pokemon GO.

Fire Pokemon are known to be some of the strongest in the franchise. These stand out as the best ones trainers can use.

However, YouTuber ino87 origami is offering fans the ability to get a different kind of Moltres — one that can adorn their desks or shelves in the real world, and it can be crafted with nothing but colorful paper and a little bit of free time. The artist’s official YouTube channel provides a one-hour-long, step-by-step tutorial on how to properly fold two sheets of 30-centimeter square paper —one red and one yellow — to create one of the strongest Pokemon of the original 151. The finished product stands about four inches tall, and it starts to become pretty recognizable about two-thirds of the way through, with the last 20 minutes dedicated to adding intricate details to its feet, beak, and wings, really making it stand out.

Moltres and Zapdos are the two latest creations posted to the channel, so Articuno fans may want to keep an eye out for the next installment.

In addition to crafting lots of different entries in the Pokedex, this artist also shows how fans can create other iconic figures and items from the world of Pokemon. These include a standard Poke Ball, a Rotom Phone, and top-tier Pokemon Champion Cynthia.
