Summary
- Pokemon GO’s Deep Depths event introduces new Pokemon and bonuses, with reduced egg hatch distance.
- Fans think that not including Relicanth in the event was a missed opportunity, highlighting the need for more chances to catch rare Pokemon.
- The game’s upcoming March schedule includes special events like a Community Day Classic and Mega Absol Raid Day.
Pokemon GO players have pointed out how the regional Pokemon Relicanth could have been promoted during the game’s Deep Depths event. Pokemon GO introduced the event earlier in March with special bonuses, timed research tasks, and rewards.
Pokemon GO‘s Deep Depths event began on March 19 and is scheduled to end on March 24. The event marked the debut of the Gen 8 fox Pokemon Nickit and its evolution, Thievul. Players also have an increased chance of encountering shiny Clauncher. The egg hatch distance has also been reduced to half during this period since the event lets fans hatch Nickit, Galarian Corsola, Pawniard, and Clauncher more often from 7 km eggs. However, some Pokemon GO players have argued that another monster could have fitted better in the event.

Pokemon GO Director Addresses Fan Concerns After Scopely Purchase
Pokemon GO director Michael Steranka addresses several community concerns after it was announced Scopely would be helming the mobile game.
Reddit user ArsenaV108 commented on how the Hoenn creature Relicanth would have been an ideal protagonist for the Deep Depths event. In their opinion, the Gen 3 Pokemon could have been featured in 10 km eggs for a limited time. The user mentioned that it’s also the only creature missing in their Hoenn Pokedex, and they’ve had a hard time finding another player to trade with. Relicanth was added to the game in 2017 as one of Pokemon GO‘s region-exclusive creatures, and it spawns in New Zealand, Fiji, and surrounding areas. It was available worldwide for a limited time during the game’s Hoenn Tour in 2023, but it is now a generally hard-to-find Pokemon.
Pokemon GO Could Have Added Relicanth to its Deep Depths Event
The post, which currently has over a thousand likes, prompted other fans to agree that Pokemon GO should include Relicanth in an event or at least give players more chances to catch it. Some also commented that the game should allow long-distance trading between players with high friendship levels. Although it is a rare occurrence, sometimes Pokemon GO makes exclusive Pokemon available worldwide. For example, it was recently announced that Skidoo will make its global debut at Pokemon GO Fest 2025. Regional-exclusive Pokemon are unlikely to go away, but an event with Relicanth and other rare monsters remains a possibility.
Pokemon GO has a packed schedule for March 2025. Aside from its ongoing Deep Depths event, the game is also holding a Community Day Classic featuring Totodile on March 22 and a Mega Absol Raid Day on March 23. The developers have also teased some content for later weeks, including Mega Audino’s Pokemon GO debut in early April.
