Pokemon TCG Pocket Has Bad News for Competitive Players
The Pokemon Company shares some unequivocally bad news for Pokemon TCG Pocket fans partial to playing the game competitively.
One of the first major announcements made during the live-stream showcase is the impending launch of a new Pokemon TCG Pocket booster pack to be released in the mobile trading card game one day after Pokemon Presents. That puts the launch of the upcoming booster pack just under a month after the release of Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Space-Time Smackdown, which included a pair of packs centered around Gen 4 Pokemon.

Along with the announcement video included in the live stream, the Pokemon YouTube channel released a separate, slightly different trailer for the new expansion pack, revealing several of its upcoming cards. Many of these cards feature new Pokemon TCG Pocket abilities, including Arceus EX’s Fabled Luster, a defensive ability that prevents it from being affected by any special conditions. Arceus EX is a colorless card that should be able to fit into decks of any energy type, and multiple other new cards will be able to draw extra power from it with abilities that come into effect as long as Arceus EX is on the field of play. These abilities include boosting the power of their own attacks by 30, reducing the power of opponents’ attacks by 30, dealing 30 direct damage to the opponent’s active Pokemon, reducing the energy cost of that Pokemon’s moves, or removing the Pokemon’s retreat cost entirely.
In addition to the new card reveals, the trailer also heralds the return of ranked PvP battles in Pokemon TCG Pocket at the end of March. That should give players plenty of time to build up decks centered around Arceus EX and other cards in Triumphant Light, and it’s likely that players will also be able to test out their skills in a new set of single-player battles featuring the new cards before the return of ranked play. Additionally, pulls from opening card packs will have a higher chance of dropping cards of three diamond rarity or higher now through April 30, 2025.
