Pokémon TCG Pocket may be getting ranked battles, but the playerbase is skeptical. Pokémon TCG Pocket was introduced in 2024 as a casual alternative to the Pokémon TCG.
The mobile app has been focused on collecting cards from continuously introduced expansions, but there’s also a simplified battling system with easier rules to follow than the competitive card game. But now, a recent leak points at the possibilities of ranked battles.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Ranked Battles Met With Skepticism
Are The Battles Made For Ranked?

A recent leak has revealed that ranked battles could be coming to the Pokémon TCG Pocket app. These ranked battles would be separate from the usual battles in the game, likely having a leaderboard based on wins and losses in battles. This would make battle outcomes matter, which some trainers are against.

Pokémon TCG Pocket has plenty of decks that are great for new players.
With fewer cards in the deck, fewer prizes required to win and simplified card actions, the Pocket version of the TCG is very straightforward and casual. It was originally meant to be a way for interested fans to ease into the TCG without feeling intimidated or confused. But die-hard TCG players flocked to the Pocket battles as well, creating metas and top decks.
This started to really highlight how imbalanced the simplified TCG was, with certain decks able to dominate the meta, specific cards overpowering the others and way too much luck-based strategy. Going first in Pocket, determined by a coin flip, is almost an automatic loss. Due to these findings, the Pocket playerbase felt the possibility of ranked battles was “stupid” and “lame.” One skeptic wrote: “Competitive coin flipping. What a time to be alive.”
It’s not clear when ranked would come to the game, if true. It wasn’t mentioned in the Pokémon Presents earlier today.
