Qantas is expanding its Asia presence with new direct flights between Darwin and Singapore starting this weekend, enhancing connectivity and offering exciting travel options.
Asia has always been a popular destination for Australian tourists and business travelers, and Qantas is further strengthening its presence in the region with new flights to Singapore starting this weekend.
On Sunday, March 30, Qantas will launch direct flights between Darwin and Singapore using a Boeing 737. The flight will take about five hours, crossing over the Timor and Java Seas.
Flight QF113 will depart Darwin at 2:55 PM and arrive in Singapore at 6:15 PM, while QF114 will leave Singapore at 7:20 PM, reaching Darwin at 1:40 AM the following day. The timing aligns with the stopover on Qantas’ flagship QF1/QF2 superjumbo flights along the Kangaroo Route, although passengers may have to spend four to five hours at Changi Airport, with lounge access providing some comfort.
Qantas last operated flights on the Darwin-Singapore route in 2006, but now faces competition from Singapore Airlines, which also flies this route with a Boeing 737 MAX featuring lie-flat business class seats and free WiFi—luxuries not available on the Qantas 737.
Additionally, Singapore Airlines offers an extensive network of connecting flights across Asia, Europe, the UK, and the Americas, providing travelers with a broader range of options.
Qantas plans to upgrade the Darwin-Singapore route to a newer Airbus A220 by Sunday, October 26. The airline is also expanding free WiFi across its Asia-focused A330 fleet, with an eye on the A321XLR jets playing a growing role in the region. Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson recently revealed that these A321XLR jets, which may include lie-flat seats in business class, will facilitate new direct routes to Asia from Australian cities beyond Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
