Award-winning actor Robert De Niro has starred in a long series of critically acclaimed projects. Although his latest title hasn’t impressed the critics, it proves interest in anything he does is still high.
De Niro has starred in many films in his career, but his new role in Zero Day comes with a lot of changes. While the actor is no stranger to TV roles – he starred in Star+’s limited series Nada in 2023 – Zero Day was his first time starring in and executive producing a TV series. Following its Feb. 20 debut, Tudum reports that the new political series Zero Day debuted at number two on the global streaming charts between Feb. 17 and 23.

Considering Zero Day had only three days to shine until Netflix stopped counting views for the week, the political series achieved stunning numbers. In its three days on the platform, it debuted in second place with 19.1 million views and 98.5 hours viewed, after the docuseries American Murder: Gabby Petito, which took the first spot with 31.3 million views and 67.3 million hours viewed. Zero Day reached the Top 10 in no less than 92 countries and became the number one show in 43 countries in its debut week.
Speaking about his role in the series, the two-time Academy Award-winning actor likened the experience of doing Zero Day to “three features back to back.” He elaborated on the comparison, saying, “I was in most of it. And so I had to keep up with everything, even as simple as knowing the lines. So I likened it to being in the English Channel – swimming to England from France, looking behind me and not seeing France, looking ahead, not seeing England. I gotta keep going, otherwise I’m gonna sink.“
