Several rural businesses in Lancashire have received a share of £280,000 in funding aimed at supporting economic growth, job creation, and local service improvements.

The funding, distributed through the Rural England Prosperity Fund, was awarded as part of an initiative to help businesses in rural areas diversify and expand.

According to a report by LancsLive, West Lancashire Borough Council secured the funding in 2023 as a supplement to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The grant program was designed to address rural economic challenges by offering small-scale capital grants to businesses seeking to innovate, enhance facilities, or explore new revenue streams.

The West Lancashire Rural Business Grant was launched in September 2023 to facilitate this effort, supporting projects that contribute to the local economy.

Six businesses were selected to receive funding in collaboration with Lancashire County Council.

Among them, Stone Hall Farm Luxury Glamping utilized the grant to add two glamping pods, two hot tubs, and related groundwork, while The Secret Garden Glamping focused on battery storage upgrades, parking improvements, and enhanced cleaning facilities.

Other recipients included The Retreat, which underwent structural renovations, and The Ship Lathom, which expanded its kitchen and upgraded its septic system.

Windmill Animal Farm installed a 60-panel solar array, and Ralph’s Wife’s Coffee and Bar expanded its kitchen.

Councillor Melissa Parlour, lead member for economic regeneration and green growth at West Lancashire Borough Council, highlighted the impact of the funding, stating:

“It’s fantastic to see how the West Lancashire Rural Business Grant has helped our local businesses grow and thrive. These projects are making a real difference, not just for the businesses themselves but for the wider business community and local economy.”

Aidy Riggott, cabinet member for economic development and growth at Lancashire County Council, emphasized the collaborative approach in distributing the funds.

“Lancashire County Council are delighted to have supported the delivery of the Rural England Prosperity Fund to support West Lancashire rural businesses. Partnership working has been key to this activity and we’re delighted that the programme has been such a great success creating local jobs and economic growth,” he said.

For business owners in the outdoor hospitality sector, initiatives like the Rural Business Grant highlight opportunities for funding that can support diversification efforts.

The ability to secure financial assistance for expansion projects—such as glamping accommodations, renewable energy installations, and facility enhancements—can be a critical factor in improving long-term viability.

With a growing emphasis on rural tourism and sustainable business practices, leveraging grant opportunities can help businesses remain competitive while contributing to broader economic development.
