Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is joining the next Spider-Man movie, which only adds more intrigue to the latest chatter churning out of the rumor mill.

Sink will costar with Tom Holland in the yet-untitled Spider-Man 4, which is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). Deadline Hollywood first reported the news. Representatives for Marvel and Sink didn’t immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for comment, and a rep for Sony declined to comment.

It’s unclear who Sink — known for playing fan favorite Max Mayfield on Stranger Things — will be playing in SM4. However, the prevalent fan theory online is that she will be introduced as Jean Grey, the telekinetic and telepathic member of the X-Men, before that super-team’s movie arrives in theaters. The Insneider was the first to report those rumblings, though the info remains uncorroborated.

Sony and Marvel plan to start filming the fourth Spidey movie this year, though Holland first must finish his work on Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey. While plot details are also under wraps, we at least know where we left off in the last movie: Spider-Man: No Way Home concluded with Holland’s Peter Parker allowing Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to right the multiverse, though a side effect to his spell caused everyone in the world to forget Peter’s existence. The web-slinging teen then sets out on his own to build a new life.

With Stranger Things coming to an end with its fifth season, premiering at an undisclosed date later this year, Sink continues to forge ahead. Spider-Man marks another major step for her, though she’ll also soon star on Broadway in John Proctor Is the Villain and in the film O’Dessa.
