He began his early schooling at the prestigious Lawrence School Sanawar in Himachal Pradesh. After Sanawar, Saif continued his education at Lockers Park School in the United Kingdom, a private day and boarding school for boys, offering preparatory and pre-preparatory education. The ‘Nawab’ then pursued his higher education at Winchester College in the United Kingdom.
Saif Ali Khan has often mentioned that while he was good at studies, he was not particularly interested in them. Whenever he did apply himself, he typically secured the top position, but he rarely took full advantage of his academic talent.

Once at the ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ Saif revealed that his love for books comes from his late father who inspired him to read books. Narrating the incident that ignited the love book Saif said “One day my father was alone at home and everyone was out shooting, my mother, me, and everyone. As no one was there at home I called him up and asked him if he is okay, are you feeling lonely? So, he said I am not lonely; I have my books with me. So, I liked that sentiment a lot and you know even I feel the same way. I like books a lot.”
In an interview with TOI, Saif revealed that his love for books began with reading Alfred Hitchcock and The Three Investigators. He also enjoyed a variety of comic books, including Amar Chitra Katha, Tintin, and Archie, especially during his younger years.
