Big news has been revealed for fans of Quentin Tarantino. The filmmaker’s 2019 film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, will be getting a sequel, though another revered director will be at the helm.
Per The Playlist, David Fincher is set to direct a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. With Brad Pitt returning to reprise his role as Cliff Booth, the project will reunite the actor with Fincher 30 years after they collaborated on Se7en. The film is in development at Netflix with plans to start filming this summer, though a release date hasn’t yet been announced.
Tarantino typically directs his own movies that he writes, marking a first for him to pass off those duties to Fincher for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 2. This could be because Tarantino is planning on having his next feature film serve as his last, so he’s being very careful with what he selects to be his swan song. He was planning to bow out with a film called The Movie Critic, which was in pre-production when Tarantino decided to scrap the project. However, that film reportedly led into the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel, as Tarantino’s work on the script evolved into the filmmaker further exploring the storyline of Pitt’s Cliff Booth.
