Sheriff Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin) is back!

After making her Fire Country debut last season in an awkward family reunion with her step-sister Sharon Leone (Diane Farr), Mickey returns in an upcoming episode of the CBS drama to tee up her upcoming spinoff, Sheriff Country. In the episode, which airs April 4, Mickey will team up with her nephew Bode Leone (Max Thieriot) to investigate a murder attempt on her father, Wes Fox (W. Earl Brown).

While Fire Country follows inmate firefighter Bode as he works for his freedom, Sheriff Country will expand the world of Edgewater with a focus on Baccarin’s straight-shooting law enforcement official. Mickey will have plenty beyond local crime to worry about — including her complicated relationship with her estranged father, who runs an illegal marijuana business.

In Fire Country season 2, viewers learned that Mickey’s chaotic upbringing led her to law enforcement, but we don’t know much else about what her world looks like. From EW’s exclusive images from the upcoming Fire Country episode, it appears that her world includes plenty of mystery. Mickey and Bode are pictured arriving on the scene of a crime and again in the woods with Wes. In the latter, all three are looking pretty surprised….

We did get some background in Fire Country season 2 on Mickey’s additional connection to Bode — she was actually the officer who arrested him, leading to (more) unresolved issues between her and Sharon. The family reconciled, and Bode even helped her root out a dirty deputy who killed the former sheriff to cover up his criminal connections. We have yet to see what that department shake-up means for Mickey — and we’re hoping we’ll find out in Sheriff Country.

It’s good to see Bode and Mickey will continue as a united front — even though it seems that Wes is in trouble.
