Laura Tobin, a meteorologist for Britain’s ITV took her Clueless fandom to a whole other level this week, as she gave a weather report as Alicia Silverstone‘s iconic character, Cher Horowitz. She was celebrating the opening of the musical adaptation of the film in London’s West End.
Tobin went all out to celebrate the 1995 Amy Heckerling comedy, which was loosely based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma. Wearing a plaid yellow blazer and skirt and holding a poufy pink pen, just like her inspiration, Tobin was even introduced as the character.
“So, I know lots of you were totally bugging since we lost the warmth and the sunshine of last weekend, but today is sunshine and showers,” Tobin said on ITV1’s Good Morning Britain. “Now, today some of you said that you got wet yesterday, because you didn’t know it was gonna shower. Like, whatever. I totally told everybody yesterday.”

She said the day’s frost was “way harsh,” but she advised viewers to look stylish anyway.
“Today’s weather is like a full on Monet,” she continued. “It’s just like a painting. See, from far away, it’s OK, but from up close, ooh, it’s just a big old mess.” She explained that there would be plenty of sunshine when the showers weren’t happening.

The area was also expecting frost. “I invited the sunshine to make a reappearance,” Tobin said, “but she didn’t RSVP. Rude.”
And, of course, she had to squeeze in one of Cher’s most quoted lines. “So are we gonna be warm this weekend?” she asked. “As if.”
She crammed in a lot of references in not a lot of time. Tobin explained on social media that the film was her “favourite.” And she’s not alone.
Nearly 30 years after it debuted, Clueless continues to be celebrated. The movie, about a seemingly shallow teenage girl who discovers the joy in helping others find love, costarred Stacey Dash, Paul Rudd, Donald Faison, Breckin Meyer, Jeremy Sisto, and the late Brittany Murphy.
Enough interest in the film remains that, in February 2023, Silverstone put that yellow plaid jacket on again for a Super Bowl ad. “It felt really good,” she told EW of stepping back into the part. “The clothes were lovely, but even more than the clothes, just getting to be her again was so fun.”
