Severance executive producer and director, Ben Stiller, recently provided a positive update regarding the future of the hit Apple TV+ series, confirming that writers have assembled in LA to begin work on Season 3.
Stiller, one of the main creative voices behind Severance alongside series creator Dan Erickson, recently confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that writers were currently working on the third season of the show, however, it has yet to be officially renewed by Apple. The outlet would also note that Stiller hopes not to keep fans waiting as long for the potential third season, following the three-year hiatus between Seasons 1 and 2. Severance has had to overcome many obstacles during both seasons of the show, with Season 1 being filmed during the pandemic, while Season 2 was delayed due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

Stiller would further add that fans shouldn’t expect the quality of the show to dip, despite Apple’s intent to cut down on costs related to its original TV and movies. “Everything changed a lot after the strike, for everyone, in terms of the way people are looking at budgets and spending,” Stiller told The Hollywood Reporter. “To Apple’s credit, they stayed on track with what the show was, and they’ve supported it.” According to Bloomberg, Severance Season 2 cost a whopping $20 million per episode, though the outlet maintained that Apple loves the series and hopes to continue making it.
Severance is Topping Streaming Charts
The second season of Severance appears to be making major waves on streaming charts. According to Reelgood, the Apple TV+ series ranks third in the top ten movies and television shows currently streaming, while Variety also had Severance in its top 10 most streamed shows. Severance is also currently the most popular show on Apple TV+, ahead of Prime Target and the Silo. Based on the limited amount of viewership data available, it appears Severance continues to be a massive success for the streamer, which bodes well for the future of the series.
