As her Sex and the City character Charlotte York Goldenblatt, Kristin Davis was a huge fan of her friend Carrie Bradshaw’s on-again/off-again love Mr. Bigg. But Davis herself, not so much.
Asked to name the most shocking storyline on the show, Davis instead chose something from the 2008 movie of the same name. “The most shocking thing was Big standing Carrie up at the wedding,” Davis said on a recent episode of her Are You a Charlotte? podcast. “That was really, really bad. okay? Now, I know we wouldn’t have had a movie without it. I get that. I totally get that. And thank God the movie was, you know, much seen and beloved, and we’re so grateful for that because it was a really big risk. But that was really bad. okay? Really, really bad, and I can’t believe she forgave him. Just can’t believe it. Still.”
As SATC fans know, much of the original HBO series focused on the love that Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) had for Chris Noth‘s mysterious character Mr. Big, who couldn’t commit. Why hadn’t he called? Why hadn’t he told her he was thinking of moving to Paris for a job? Why had he decided to marry someone else? And on and on. In the big-screen take on the story of Carrie and her friends Charlotte, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) navigating love and friendship, Carrie and Big (whom we learned at the end of the series was actually named John) were finally engaged to be married.
But the planned nuptials at the New York Public Library didn’t happen. Big couldn’t get out of the limo once he arrived at the venue. Carrie (and Charlotte) were devastated. The first time around, the movie was a tough watch for longtime fans. In the end, it was true romantic Charlotte who helps Big reconnect with Carrie after he realizes that he’s made a mistake.

Still, there isn’t much time for viewers to see Carrie and Big happy together, since she’s vacationing with her friends and contemplating a romance with her ex Aidan (John Corbett) in much of the second movie, and Big then unexpectedly dies of a heart attack minutes into the first episode of sequel series And Just Like That.

Charlotte, of course, is much luckier in love. While her first marriage, to Kyle MacLachlan‘s Trey, was a bust and ultimately ended in divorce, she’s since found happiness with her divorce lawyer, Evan Handler’s character Harry.
Davis explained on her podcast, too, that she was disappointed MacLachlan declined to appear on And Just Like That, in a scrapped storyline about the two running into each other. Turned out her on-screen ex just didn’t think the scene was “amazing” enough, but Davis said she’s hopeful an idea will be in the future.
